Default Help with the High Elves economy

Why are the high elves so poor? Weren't they supposed be so rich, what with those magnificent cities and palaces. Or maybe that's the reason, they spent all their money making them?

I know all the basics, build economy buildings, roads, trade, etc. I already did all that. My biggest army is 5 units, and my economy is so marginal I don't dare to build any more units. I know the orcs will soon come calling and I don't have enough forces to face them.

o_O?, i had toooooo much money with high elves (well until minas tirith osgiliath etc etc started to be able to produce units in a very good quantity (and wiped mordor with 4armies) xD)

you should try conquering ootmm... idk :S, try moving capital to a better place (rivendell its not a good capital mtw2 wise )

Do not recruit any special units anywhere...but Imladris only...
the rest regions don't have the same need of garison
Focus your expansion southwards and specially the cities that are close to sea...
try to take some money from your diplomatic contacts (ask 4 money [~1000] for own map revealing/trade rights granting etc.)
Do not upgrade a city when it is gonna count against the development of the minor ones

    Huh? How comes?

Do the following as HE (which have a better econ than any other good faction compared to their challenges):
1., 2. and 3. - on turn 1 move capital to west coast, look on the financial forecast to dtermine best city
    4. Build/gather a small army for the first rebel town at the coast to the south. Small means 3 Elven light archers, a general and may be a light infantry
    5. Build just one unit each turn in Imladris (only shooters, so you CAN NOT even build each turn) you reach 6. Sit tight and do nothing but a few watchtowerrs. The army at Imladris should not start moving before around turn 15.

For the first 10 turns slowly building conomy and army that should give you a net 1500 to 2000 each turn - just enough for one improvement and one unit each turn after turn 2.

Beleive me - conquering the two rebel cities south at the coast, than moving an army east and start steamrolling OotmM youŽll be rich and powerful turn 35, IF you remember to just minimally garrison your west coast cities, they are not threatened by anyone.

For the good side I played campaigns as Gondor, Silvan Elves, Eriador and High Elves - the HE were by far the easiest to play.

    Regards,

    Thorsten

Switch your captial to the West at the beginning. You will get a serious higher amount of cash, get those two rebel settlements in the Northern-Part and trade the upper one with the dwarves for their mountain fortress at the West. Now expand to the South till you reach Isengard, defend Imladris at all cost but dont expand there. Only expand through the West.

I did what Thor Ha suggests as well, but just try to take advice though principle rather than going by a checklist (ex: 1 conquer this territory then go here etc)....you understand M2TW economics and they do in fact work for HE. Just do what makes sense. They do FEEL poor at the beginning as you can barely field an army and OOMM scares the crap out of you when they march toward Rivendel, but you will be ok as long as you maintain an ok garrison (elvish archers decimate snagas and generals bodyguard cavalry charges crush goblin infantry). Eventually, your western cities develop to a point where you can start expanding into the Misty Mountains....then the cash starts rolling in (Moria and Goblin Town have lucrative mines). For me it was around turn 30 or 40 when I destroyed OOMM and focused south to Isengard.

So just stick with it and maintain your economic principles. This is an awesome compaign (the most fun in my opinion) so dont quit on em!

Try keeping your taxes down in the first 30 turns. After that your taxes will flourish.
