Russian archaeologists unearth 1000-years mosque in Tatarstan's Kazan
Russian archaeologists unearthed a 1000-years mosque in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan, showing Islamic roots lie earlier times than some historians suppose, Islam.ru said.
Russian experts gave information about the results of their studies which has been carried out for 11 years in Kazan's Kremlin Palace. According to the experts, it is a wrong view that Islam has emerged after the 15th century in Kazan and in the region.
The experts showed a mosque belonging to the 10th century as an example to prove the views were wrong.
Archaeologists found another ruin by white stone near one of old bastions of the city. The building which ruins blong to was ericted towards the direction of Meccah, the researchers said.
According to the Russian experts, the city of Kazan existed, at latest, in the 10th century but the written documents are belonging to the 15th century. In this period, K azan was the capital of "Kazan Khanate."
The experts, carrying out this work, made another speacial research during 1994-2005 and found 1000-year history of Kremlin Palace.
The archaeologists demonstrated that Kazan grew after the establishing of Kazan Khanate.
