Recently i have purchased the very anticipated game Battlefield 2. Before i played the full version i downloaded the demo. I clocked 41 hours in one week on the demo, thats how much i enjoyed it. When i finaly began playing the full version i noticed in most of the ranked servers there is an extreme amount of lag. My ping averages from 20 to 40. In game it seems like my ping is 250 to 400. It lags extremely bad. Now mayeb it could be my system. Iam running the game on all high settings. My specs are amd 3500+, 1gb of ram, x800 xl, 40gb hd. Now is it me or should i be able to run this game really smooth. Single player is no problem, no lag at all. Its only online. Now my friend is having the same problem but his is evern worse. His specs are 3.0ghz p4, 1.5gb of ram, and 6800gt. He can not even run the game on high settings. His computer his really nice to. If there any one else with this problem, please speak out.

try lowering all your video settings and then playing online.
Dice said they were releasing a significant update to the game soon, i havne't gotten around to buying bf2 yet, but there's a chance there was a retail issue that will be addressed in the patch, though there is no documentation of it in the patch news

its not your system. it is a problem with ranked servers. try playin on an unranked one. CCC Frathouse is ranked and is always lag free for me. give'er a go and see if you experience the same issues.

Yup, agree too; it's the servers. I have a mean computer, good DSL, and I generally play on servers located close to my residence (Ashburn, VA; New York, etc.). I almost always get unbearable lag on large servers. Another thing I've noticed are servers crashing and kicking me out to windows when a round finishes. Wait for the update.

I have a LAN that gets me more than 300 kb/sec (I have cable) from a good source. I've gotten way more than that. But I can't play online! It skipps, basicly for one tenth of a second the connection is lost. That means that when I'm playing, I have to wait a bit to reconnect... normally about 5 seconds, in game. (It won't kick me out, but I'll be frozen)

That means that for games like BF2:

If I'm in a heli/plane, I drop like a rock.
If I'm on the ground, I just sit there as the world's easiest target.

It makes online play impossible, simply not worth it. Until I can fix it or get a ground connection, I'm waiting to buy BF2.

It's just the ranker servers. Anyone who is planning on buying this game should disregard the lag problems. By the time you get yourself established with the game and looking for something new. They probably would have fixed the lag problems. I must admit its a definite minus but the game is still worth it.

They better fix it. The ranked servers is how you get the unlockable weapons.
