    Default Tokus*convinc-imus

Tok very subtly convinced me to play. Thats right, i am now a DVL'er!
well at least i am trying to be but coming up with a couple of gripes..
    (1) Tried the kingdoms DLV variants, Brittania & Americas - other than crowns and a few very nice new graphics - they played very similar to the original (plus some good flavor added).

    >>So i turn to 6.1<<

Very script heavy - i peaked into the script before starting and was pretty amazed! by some of the very cool features.
I usually stuck to RTW mods and M2TW mods that slightly changed things as i am (was) a fan of vanilla M2TW (while working on DotS). Basically waiting for a good early medieval period mod like VLL to finish and then TATW was released... Now i am actually giving DLV a chance and wish i had of earlier.

    (2) 6.1 is very slow.. I played Irish for 20 turns and was not able to take more than one settlement - and everything that could go wrong did!... Roads failed constantly, markets BLEW UP, port was like a bubble bath.. My recruitment was strangled and all i was doing was running around skirmishing rebels - 4 turns out of 5 included several battles - kept a governer in my settlement and ensured the Generals were not left out of the action. tried all my regular strategies that allow me to advance quite well in all other mods.. DLV is hard in a good way BUT very boring..

It has tested every aspect of my ameplay strategies - the battles are the only thing familiar to me! the strat game is a boring dull place.. eventful but i fear it will be 100 turns plus before i meet an English army!

Does anyone have a tip for me? maybe feature combinations - expluding the ones that will break open the possibility to expand slightly better and finally meet an Englishmen in the battlefield..

I seriously do not want to go out and try another faction - it is against my rules, i start as one faction and must continue until i win. then move onto another! so i intend to try the Flanders faction next..

But right now i need tips to make a decent Irish game.

    PLEASE HELP!

    OH EDIT:
I tried the historical campaign it is a joke - sry to the guy who set it up.. no offense, just not my thing. i like factions starting small.. BTW there is no longer use for all the rebel factions..

With any faction in DLV, it's important to build up your economy before going to war with neighboring factions. The field costs and settlement costs make it necessary to have a strong economy to support everything, or you'll go bankrupt and have civil war. I tend to play a "turtle" type game anyway which suits DLV.

    Hail Archaon,

Good to see you here Chief! For everyone who plays DLV; I work with Archaon on the 'Extreme Middle Earth' mod for TATW called 'Divide & Conquer' where Reknown with Archaon (plus a few others and myself) have been adding lots of factions and script goodies. It is good to know you looked into Repman's tremendous scripting - it does tend to lead to long 'turtle' games (rather than fast 'hare') and can be extemely frustrating. Basically, everything possible to make life difficult has been done. The 6.2 beta of DLV is even meaner!

Bamatoon is correct when he says 'concentrate on your economy' - only with that strong can you expect to cope with the many other factions. Keep your generals and armies within settlements or it'll cost you. I tend to take the heir out with the main force to tackle the rebel stacks early on and then use him in any defensive actions (or aggressive ones). Forts (if you any) allow you free upkeep for you units. Harry Lime gave me pointers where to change the script so I can build forts where I wish (my only 'cheat' with the VH/VH gameplay). Thank you for trying my home-mod. It may give you insights into script ideas and food for thought. Sorry it is SO tough. The strat game is like no other!

    best,

    Tokus*Galacticus

I gave it more of a chance - played another 20 turns from start - turned off extra settlement cost script only this time around and concentrated on tax/trade income and fighting defensively against rebels i/o aggressively.
I may just be able to acquire my first settlement in the next few turns...

I am still looking for some good combination of scripted features to get the best pace vs difficulty out of DLV..

    anyone?

p.s. @Tok, i also modded the DLV game I added in my Stronger alliances mod so i can trust my allies a wee bit more than my enemies (the way it should be)...

It's also important for you to have more cities then castles or at least 50/50.
And you should check this thread, if you haven't yet, --> http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=169894, it as many usefull tips.

    Enjoy

I always mod back in the ability to convert castles to cities. There is an overabundance of castles on the map and not enough cities, IMHO, which leads to financial problems if your faction is surrounded by castles since castles make almost no money.

I also figured out how to allow building of forts, and removed the permanent ones, but the problem I had was that while the forts on the strat map are stone, in the battle map, they are those little wooden ones, and I couldn't stand that. I'd like to be able to build my own forts, but I want them either all stone or all wood.

The AI factions put up a much better fight if you give them 20 to 40 turns to develop. (This is Repman's guideline). It really makes the game challenging ( all the way up to almost impossible) depending on your faction choice!
