    Default Eriador

    just a quick one....i havent had a chance to recruit dunedain rangers yet as havent got that far in the campaign but are they any good in melee?? as eriador hasnt really got anything decent in melee when fighting against uruk-hai??

    oh yeah good point....i think i did before and they got slaughtered...anyone know of a decent unit in eriador that can fight against uruk-hai and such units without getting chopped down so quickly or scared and run away??

    oh yeah dont get me wrong im more than happy to have this one forever!!! its awsome...i just dont like have to go with eriador to get aragorn and gandalf and then have a peaceful time for a while...then when i decide to attack i get mashed by isengards uruk-hai and beserkers..i have a full stack of greenway guards and archers but still they annihalate me.

    i made the mistake of attacking mordor and got destroyed by olog-hai and nazgul...it took but a second for aragorn and gandalf to fall and it was fun over....

    If you're gunna play as Eriador you have to play their strengths, yeah their infantry and basically everything about them suck other than their special 3 (Rangers, Greenway Guards, and Grey Company)

    But since they have lots of light infantry and light cav you can outmaneuver your enemies, basically surround them and that's where your advantage is

    i usually try but on vh/vh i cant afford becuase once i make a move its like they have it in for me or something?!?!!? has anyone figured out how to move gandalf and aragorn into gondor's faction?

    I always found it best to just let lumbermen take the damage while swinging around with some bree-land riders and charge into their backs. On another note, try attacking Isengard before they get Uruk-hai and berserkers

    I decided to "buff" Eriador's units' stats a little...cause they really sucked...
    Since i've done that i would say that I 'm allmost starting to like them ..
    You see... Eriador could be really great if some of it's units were a little bit better...
    G.Guards (buffed defence skill/armour /decreased attack)
    for holding the line/
    D.Rangers (buffed missile attack & gave them the elven arrow)
    to keep enemies in distance /
    Bandits (buffed attack/decreased defence) for
    hand-to-hand battles/
    D.Knigts (buffed charge ) for shock-attacks
    I actually had a satisfying(in terms of battlemap fighting) campaign since i did this...

    BUT...
    1.Go to ...
    Sega/medieval II total war/mods/third age/data folder ,
    2.search for export_descr_unit.txt (look down),
    3.make a backup of it
    (in case you won't like my version)
    4.copy-paste my edited files
    and you're done!

    Should you want to return to the 1.2 original unit's stats just copy the file (export_descr_unit)
    which you've
    made backup of , following step 3. into Sega/medieval II total war/mods/third age/data folder

    EDIT: Ive been messing around with it alot , so eriador's roster is not the only one modified...
    (didnt touch evil's roster though)

    Eriador mostly...
    Some units of the S.&H.elves have better attack
    (very few changes ...don't remeber though which ones...i think Eldar cavalry for HE and Sindar archers for SE)...
    Slight increase in K.Dum's guards' attack
    Improved Royal Guard attack/charge (rohan probably has now the best cavalry unit)+R.guard spearmen's improved defence...
    Some improvements on Axemen's of Loss. "speed of attack" and on the charge of the Swan knights for Gondor
    That's all that i can recall...
    Remember that allmost all the changes have been combined with an increase of recruitment costs
    in order not to spoil the fun!Enjoy!
