Why have my spear troops started switching to swords?

I am well into an ERE campaign. Nearly 100 turns.

Now for some reason all my spear armed troops have started switching to swords as they enter combat. Infantry, cavalry, all of them. It's a real gamebreaker.

Can someone help me out here before I uninstall this mod for good. Because otherwise it's yet another campaign and hours and hours of work wasted. I am so fed up.

Well, that's almost unbelivable, since not every ERE spearmen or lancer unit have sword as a secondary weapon. What is also weird is that the issue appeared after 100 turns, all of the sudden. Could you be more specific? Have you been fiddling with the EDU file?

No, I never ever touch the EDU. It wasn't at exactly turn 100, but somewhere around that.

I have noticed this happening with Emperors guard and byzantine cavalry. They carry spears, then switch to swords just before melee.

I see. Maybe it's a matter of wrong charge timing? I've noticed, that units sometimes get lost during the charge - that's not so bad with cavalry which you can quickly withdraw and repeat the charge from closer distance. It also depends on formation - if it is loosen for any reason, the charge can fail. But it is rather vanilla M2TW issue. Other than that I have no idea what can be wrong with your game. I didn't experience anything like that. It is also doubtful that something suddenly stopped working.

You may refer to the imprerial guards infantrymen...
This unit needs a carefull use...
The unit id designed just like the cavalry units (to use swords when ennemies are to close)...
Now...if you want them to use their spears more time in defence use the "stand ground" button...
In the asault when you will point an ennemy unit for them to attack they will use their spears...
In this case too the "stand ground" button we give the spear ussage more time...

if they switch back to swords during combat, left click on the enemy again and they'll switch back to their spears.

Its deliberate, and it's one unit in ERE roster, one unit in KOJ roster and one unit in saracen rosters...

It's almost comic to say that one unit will brake your game..., but it's your time you waste.
