    Default Your greatest battles?

    Hey Guys!

I would like to know about your greatest battles.

    Maybe you want to share?

Backround of the battle, opponets, composition of the armies, battle`s progress, consequences

Would be great to read about some epic battles!

well, this isn't my greatest battle, but it is a very heroic one and one that i lost.

this is on Vh/Vh and me as the romans

I was concentrating my forces in finishing off the Iberians when my spies inform me that an Egyptian army is advancing towards Greece through that southern landbridge.
With no nearby armies to intercept it, I quickly transported my veteran army from Africa on some ships and made their way there to counter the Egyptian offensive.
The Egyptian army consists of 2 cavalry, 6 phalanx , 4 legionarries and some skirmishers.
My army consists of my general, 1 first cohort, 8 understrength cohort, 5 cretan archers, 1 gallic calvary ,1 tartarem calvary and 2 merc peltatis

In the end, my cohorts were all surrounded with my general in the middle. My legionaries held out for as long as they can(and it was really long), but couldn't protect their general and when the general died, they routed.

Though they were defeated, they were able to buy enough time for me to send a replenished army there to reinforce that region
And I was really amazed at my cohorts, which eventually went down to even 1 soldier, was still standing and fight. Imo, shows a lot of valour

Yeah sometimes a defeat is more honourable than a victory. (At least when it comes to remembering it. I don’t have to mention Thermophylae…)
Though kinda sad that almost your entire veteran legionnaires got worn down. Maybe too much of a sacrifice…? Maybe it would have been better to rather sacrifice a city than a whole veteran legion? So you could have mustered your forces and send your veterans into a battle they could have won or where they at least not would have gotten wiped out. Always makes me sad when I see brave infantry getting slaughtered.
