Default Dwarven corruption skyrocketing. Please help me!

The 1.2 patch change log looked great, so I decided to give the Dwarfs a go. The strangest thing keeps happening: in every campaign I play with them, corruption goes through the roof! Here is a screenshot of my 3rd attempt with the Dwarfs:

    And here's the situation:

    - In every territory I own, every building that adds to law has been constructed. The only exception being Erebor, since the top-end buildings are too expensive.

    - I have exactly one Inn, in Kugavod. I always demolish Inn type buildings in cities I conquer.

    - Family members that have corrupt-ish traits do not govern my cities, they are placed in my armies. Same goes for generals. All other (thus non-corrupt) characters have been placed in cities.

    - There are basic roads connecting all my territories.

And still I was losing massive amounts of gold to corruption every turn! By coincidence I found out that tearing down trade buildings (markets, ports) lowered my corruption. Better yet, the loss in trade from destroying them was in every case less than the loss in corruption ... which makes the destruction of trade profitable!

Just to be sure, I made peace with Rhun and disbanded every single army unit, save free city upkeep units. I have exactly one stack remaining in the field, lead by my generals-and-family-members-with-weak-or-dangerous-traits. It's currently in the north of the MM, grinding it's way to Goblin Town.

Hence, after demolishing my trade and armies I now find myself making a nice profit.

But there is still over 8000 gold corruption remaining!

Every single settlement I own (save Erebor, being the capital) has between 480 and 970 corruption per turn, according to the settlement details.

Can anybody help me? What in the world could be causing it?

    (Solutions that did not work:
    - Putting the faction leader or heir in the capital city
    - Making another settlement the capitol city
    - Breaking all bonds with allied factions
    - Demolishing all Dwarven breweries)

    I'm playing VH/VH, TATW1.2, no sub-mods, but with the evil-factions-can-die bugfix.

    Hi there,

I might think your problem come from distance to capital corruption style which is the same when plying High Elve or even Sylvan Elve because starting cities are quite distant one from another. i sugget you move your capital to a central city.

EDIT: i just saw you tried it! Anyways, corruption are normal with huge empire because of distance to palace. Thats it. Pley Hard or medium for less corruption matters.

I tried that, but that doesn't help...

Don't keep both east and west starter regions - choose one side to keep (usually east with erebor) and trade the others away to dale, whenever you need a quick expansion phase and want to dump some corruption. If you quickly take the 2 grey western regions, then develop them for a while, you can then trade them for some nice dale cities close to erebor.

I've played about 7 dwarven campaigns, on different levels and yes, corruption is a thing you have to handle very soon. As you've already done, build the law buildings, try to put generals with good traits as governors, and move capital to a central place.
As I saw your map, you're at the beginning of conquering the mountains, so if I were you, I should put my capital to Wrakyaburg (this is somewhere in the middle of your realm now. Maybe this is not the best position, check it at the Financial Summary, how corruption changes if you move your capital) and pay attention to move a general with good governor skills there. Distance from capital is really important for corruption rate, and pay attention to the fact that cities (and forts) with high income produce more corruption if they are far from the capital.

But, as I'm now in turn 120 with my latest campaign, my corruption rate is just very high, but I still have enough money to build my economy and to make (full stack) of Khazad-
    Dum-Iron Guard-Iron Crossbowmen armies.

    Thanks for the explanation Kisbelaim!

So just to check: this means that the quite ridiculous amount of corruption is caused almost solely by distance to capital?

Almost (as long as I know). But there are other factors making corruption increase/decrease. Check it, it's worth to play with where to move the capital (check not the capital only (that has no corruption), but the surrounding cities and those far away also (number will be interesting, at least for me those were!).

In my Dwarf campaign Corruption is annoying but bareable. I still make more money every turn then I lose and am able to fund my campaigning armies. Corruption is un-avoidable. You have to live with it.

Corruption hasn't changed with 1.2 , it's supposed to be that high for every faction. You actually have a nice profit and should be able to afford at least another stack of units. I think you are mistaken about the merchant buildings, in my game the corruption penalty was never higher than the trade income, if you can show me an example where destroying the building increased your income that would be great. If you want to give your profits a boost I suggest taking the OotMM and Rhun settlements with mines and build mining networks.

Louis Lux, I'm too tired (23:49 here) to fire up the game again for screens, but I kept experimenting after reading the suggestions here. As it turns out, rebuilding the first-level markets in 12 settlements indeed raised trade as well as corruption ... with the trade increase being only 270 more than the corruption increase.

Darn. This was one of my main hopes for the 1.2 patch. I really don't enjoy having to move my generals one space out of the cities every turn to avoid getting corruption traits. Submod time!

We are talking about dwarves and corruption right?

I mean, only a dragon would hoard more gold than a dwarf...

I think it is AWESOME to get corruption as a Dwarven Monarch; and think it is cool when the little greedy sobs start taking for their own pocket!

well in my high elves campaign I have the same problem.
    I was losing 9 k a turn to corruption.

I haven't tried moving my capital to mithlond or anything though

Yes I agree that the corruption is too high in this mod. Although I do not build all law buildings and never bother to keep generals as governors (except I kept Elrond in Rivendell, because else the population would decline). I find generals more useful as units tbf

But this corruption issue might be something for 1.3. Can't really imagine especially elves to be that corrupt^^

It is less awesome to build law buildings, barracks, units to garrison cities and keep good generals home as governors and still find corruption going through the roof. The mentioned actions should lower corruption, and yet they don't or do so only by an extremely small amount.

If Dwarves wouldn't be able to build law buildings, then fine. But if I'm able to build, recruit or do something, I want it to have the desired effect.

You call 8000 corruption a lot with about 20 provinces?

  19. #19

Default Re: Dwarven corruption skyrocketing. Please help me!

The 8000 is after destroying a lot of trade buildings, carefully selecting generals to govern selected cities, breaking bonds with other factions, building roads, building every single available law building and disbanding all (partial) stacks save one. (Regardless of which actually affect corruption, I just tried everything I could come up with).

So yes, I call 8000 corruption on an income of 33.000 a lot. It means that 1 in every 4 gold coins I make vanishes into somebodies pockets! With a strict, honest, chivalrous and above all lawfull regime, that is absurd.

I had a similar problem, so I moved my capitial to "Dain's Hall" and the problem got worse, then I tired moving it "Goblin Town", renamed ,with a Mayors palace and it droped significantly.

Moving it to a city with a good government building , seem to do the trick. Castles don't do so well even if they are close or fully developed.

    Hope that helps
