Illegal ?

I remade the vanilla MTW2 cursors for my mod , and made em look like those of AoE2 . Now , i wanted to upload the pack , so that everyone could download it , but is that illegal ?

i dont think its illegal as majority of the stuff that mods have are from the internet or other sources then edited a little bit and it becomes theirs

I have seen your cursors, and they look EXACTLY like those from Age of Empires 2. Also I tried to browse through as many of your posts as I could, and I didn't see you making 2d graphics, whereas that cursor is marked by good technical proficiency.

I believe what Sig is trying to infer, in a particularly roundabout manner, is whether or not you created them in the likeness of AoE, or took them directly from the game. I'd say the latter would be wishy-washy, I personally wouldn't advise it but then I'm not a lawyer, whilst the former shouldn't be prosecutable assuming anyone even really cared what a few hundred people on a mod forum are doing.

Ah , like that ..

@ I'm no 2D artist at all , but sometimes i do some 2d art (i'm busy on a mini-mod , that's why i made these in the first place)

But if there's really danger for copyright issues , i'll get it off the site , you know ..

I'm pretty sure that a copyright infringement for using cursors of a 10-years-old game would not be persecuted, not even by microsoft

My advice is don't worry about it, noone is going to take you to court over a cursor when i daresay there are plenty of other worse copyright infringments going on in mods.
