Around the end of the third century the Kingdom of Pontus has surprisingly emerged victorious in the struggle to succeed the Seleucid empire or at least the better part of it. They started pressing west and eventually got me ticked off while I was calmly expanding along the Adriatic. With about 6 legions, with another two being in Iberia, from where they were later shifted towards the Balkans, I pushed Pontus back East, giving as gifts all the conquered provinces to the Greeks, Gauls and Sarmatians. Now look at the nice composition of provinces that I've made.

I think it's pretty much perfect and guaranteed to cause a war between at least three factions

I doubt they will turn against each other.

probably they will ally up and start attacking you

Let's see what turns out

So far about five years have passed (20 turns) and they haven't started anything. The two Pontic stacks are blocked inside that province and that's all. Pontus continues its war with the Greeks which seem to be totally incompetent. This will be the third time I have to go in with legions, take back their provinces and return them to the Greeks. I even have to give them some money as well, otherwise they won't accept their own provinces. For a few turns I was giving the Greeks about 25 000 denarii each turn just to help them build some armies. But they keep getting beaten by Pontus. Stupid lazy muthas.

Hmm. Yeah. I've noticed that oftentimes entire factions are beaten even though they should be able to hold their own, just because for some reason the game decided they should lose all their battles.

Isn't that a bit risky? If you give them a lot of money then they can build armies and then attack you instead of Pontus.

As long as you're not neighbors, they're unlikely to attack you. If you are neighbors, then they might attack you as well as Pontus.

The problem was that they were inactive, even after the third time I gave them their own provinces along with money. It's the mysteries of the campaign AI. I've scrapped that campaign by now though
