    Default Mein Kampf

I recently bought a 1939 1st English Edition of Mein Kampf. After reading it I realise how much of a genuis and a nut job that Hitler was. Have any of yous read it and if so, do yous have any favourite chapters, passages quotes etc?

I went in to a book store in Belfast and asked them to order me a copy of Mein Kampf but then I seen this 1939 edition on the internet for the same price. The guy workin in the book sjhop gave me the dirtiest look I have evr seen so I decided to buy mine over the internet.

My favourite theory of Hitlers is that the Jews are responsible for the divisions between Catholic and Protestants!

If you are interested in buying a mordern copy, make sure it is based on James Murphy's 1939 Translation as it is the only english translation approved by the Third Reich.

Its great. If you are into history I reccomend it as it lets you get into the mind of the most evil man in history.

I find it strange though that Germany couldnt find a single German to translate the book into English. No German spoke decent English in 1930s or what?

I dont think the Nazis would of wanted the english or indeed anyone else to know the existence of the book. Its primiray function was just to inspire hope in the hearts of the germans who were impoverished and wanted someone strong to raly around.

It echoes on in history Mao had the little red book was also to express what he wanted to do, and i think Stalin also published a book to but im not quite sure as literacy rates were extremely low, so i cannot guarentee it =]

But yeah Mein Kampf gave the German people what they wanted and although most of it is comepletely flawed and deemed 'political pornography' by some people, it instilled in them the determination to carry out the acts they did later..

Hmm that is quite bad actually, on the topic actually i would like to point out that not much is said about Japanese war crimes especially those of Unit 731 and the diabolical decrees of Hiro Hito, it just goes to show history just becomes half truths and rumours if the truth is not shown and revealed. I guess one could ask what is the truth, what really hapenned. I guess we shall never really know..

Well, history tends to repeat itself anyway despite people being completely aware of it. So I think starting a completely new leaf and forget about the past is much better.

For example, todays Japanese have nothing to do with the War Crimes in the 1940s and todays Indonesians do not have any experience related to the War Crimes either. So whats the point of preserving the memory? Let bygone be bygone and start a new leaf. This is the reason why we dont have 'Greeks-Turks Insanity'. Today we associate the Japanese not with war crimes but with anime and hentai.

Im just sad that Europe for example is still really stuck in WWII. It seems that until now European thinking remains revolving around the Holocaust and Nazism.

Well if we were to simply let bygones be bygones then there would be no need for a history forum would there?

Its nice to know history but I think the effects of history tend to be more negative.

For example Christians and Muslims today are still bickering over the Crusades that occurred 1000 years ago.

I fail to see anything negative if for example the memory of the Crusades were erased completely.

Why would Germans at that time be bothered translating it into another language? Most of them hung on Hitler's every word and believed that Jews were evil and that they were the pure race! Why would they translate it for people who they believed were below them?

Honestly, I don't know, I just like to rant!

translation into english made a lot of sense.

in britain and canada for example there was a strong sentiment against jews as well at the time (jews were not allowed to bath with other people in canada for example)
spread the idea around other nations made sense. also the english werent considered a minor race by hitlers ideology.

that, or they planned on conquering the whole world and making us all speak german, so there would be no need for translation
