my laptop that has rs2 has had a "severe hardware fault" which i have internet-confirmed to be pretty much terminal (a replacement motherboard is needed) so i won't be able to test for a long while, i'll stay in the beta forum to keep up to date and give suggestions....the laptop refuses to turn on with the power supply connected and a fully charged batttery, i spoke to other owners of the same laptop and they have told me its kinda fatal. So i may have to get a new one. And instead i'm just gonna get a more powerful desktop cause the laptop sucked at playing games

it's a case of hp being stingy buggers....they have a warranty extension that covers my problem but it only covers a tiny percentage of the defective laptops. Mine not being one of them means i could pay up to £300 for a fix. Only way to get a free repair is to phone them and continually battle away. Fortunately i think the hard drive can be saved

In my opinion laptops generally aren't such a good bet for gaming. There's often compromises made on cooling in order to fit them into a small shell.

Agreed; it can be tough enough keeping a desktop cool when you run games for long periods with a powerful video card. My laptop gets hot running MS Word!

Not necessarily. My laptop plays ETW on ultra graphics settings with no problems what so ever, then again my laptop is only 3 months old with an excellent cooling system and a good graphics card and processor. Older laptops really are not built with gaming in mind.

i think the problem is due to age as it isnt in constant use for gaming. the laptop is at least 4years old so not exactly young. gonna phone hp and see what i can do about repairs...

£300 would get you a desktop that could play rome, but you could upgrade it in the future to be hot.

yeuppp. £300 would buy my laptop today....i may be able to get it fixed for free. If not i may get a desktop, but that would probably leave me with no RS2 until Christmas...
