Default ? about partitioning - so i can play battlefield 2

i really would like to play battlefield 2 but unfortunately, according to gamespot, it only runs on XP and i'm still on Win 2000 Pro.

question is, i have about 15 gb on my one and only hard drive and was wondering if i could create a partition so i can install XP? how much disk space would that take?

is this possible? if so, then next question is HOW to actually do it.

Type in "create partition" into your 'Help and Support Center' follow instructions. I'm not actually sure it is possible to do with an in use hard drive. You 'may' have to reformat the entire lot.
XP takes up a little of 1.5GB of HD.

If you did though wouldn't it be a good time to just run XP for all your PC rather than 'just' BF2?

I don't know why'd you'd prefer to keep win2000 at all, having two windows operating systems at once is somewhat of a waste. win2k is great and all, but for most personal users, XP is more useful.
If you want to partition like that, the only way I can think of is reformating the entire disk and then enabling a dual boot, but dual booting can get messy, especially with two OSs that are so similar, so I highly recommend against it.

i don't want to upgrade to xp because i'm afraid i will lose all my win2k files and programs (and would have to reinstall all my programs again like ms office, photoshop, etc.)

will this happen if i upgrade to xp or everything will remain the same (i.e., all my files/folders will still be there and they will not be renamed to 0000, 0001 or something and i won't have to reinstall all my programs again)?

Are you sure your computer is good enough for Battlefield 2? 15 gb is very little space, so it made me think your computer is crap.

I'm not sure how it works between win2k and XP, you should probably do a little reading. Folders won't be renamed, the structure is the same, I don't know if XP requires complete deleting of stuff though.
You could just reinstall everything after you reformat it, That's what I do every time I reformat. Reformating is good for the PC's well being

reformatting is an option but it would take a LOOONG time to install all my programs and then configure them again.

plus, i have a ton of files that i would have to back up to a CD (don't have a dvd-burner) and that would take quite some time, too.

so all in all, i've checked whether my pc can handle battlefield 2 and i am well over the recommended settings. only problem is i'm on win2k so i guess it's dual-booting time!
