Playing as the senate

Alright, so i know this is meant strictly for playing as the Romans, but do you think playing as the Senate would result in similar gampelay as they begin in unfair conditions as the Romans do?

Let me hear your thoughts.

I recall there was a patch out for 6.4 atleast that made it possible to play as the Senate, and some stuff was changed to suit playing it aswell. However, I'm not sure if this was ever made for 7.0 again.

Lol not a chance m8y. The ai cannot handle the roman faction full stop, and be wipped out within 10-20 yrs. The game has too many negative bonuses on the roman faction, you have to destroy foreign temples because they give neg bonuses to the romans, the ai cannot do this for example. So NO!
You can of coarse mod spqr, but unless you know what ur doing 4get it

I never suggested the AI for the Julii be able to fend for themselves, I am saying that starting out as the senate, you would be in similar circumstances as the Julii are in, therefore you could play different units while still maintaining the difficulty of the campaign (maybe even a harder one?).You would first have to take over the Julii then defeat whateer is left of Hannibal and Theopanes, not to mention fending off the Gauls from the North. The "negative bonnuses on the roman faction" would now be handed over to the Senate. Of course I understand there would probably be modding for such things as reforms and other stuff.

If you play as the senate you will be in a to great advantage, you will get a lot of money (which is needed to maintain there imperial legions) and you will start with those imperial legions. Also if you play as the senate you won' t be able to build ships as thy have been removed for the senate.
