    Default Yarr Somali Pirates Strike

NAIROBI - Somali pirates have hijacked a Malta-flagged ship with 28 Ukrainian crew on board in the Indian Ocean, a maritime official said Saturday.

The Malta-flagged MV Ariana was seized late Friday, Andrew Mwangura, East Africa Coordinator of Seafarers Assistance Programme, said.
‘The vessel was sailing from Brazil to the Middle East’ at the time of the incident, Mwangura said. ‘The crew are all Ukrainian and we believe they are safe.’
The incident came hours after a Portuguese warship thwarted an attack on a Norwegian vessel in the Gulf of Aden. The warship was part of a NATO patrol in the region.
The Portuguese warship sent a helicopter to help the Norwegian oil tanker Kition after a distress call was made. The incident occurred some 161 km off the Somali coast.
NATO said the helicopter chased the pirates back to their ‘mother ship’, and briefly detained about 19 pirates.
Somali pirates have hijacked dozens of ships last year and collected millions of dollars in ransom from the shipping companies.
The piracy threat in Somali waters has pushed up the insurance premiums which resulted in high freight costs.

Similiar cases happened to British, German, French and Portugese Ships...
Looks like Davey Jones is back aye lads?
Seriously something has to be done about this
I mean all those supplies coming from India and Asia are being raided by no-life Somalis
NATO and EU should really extend their patrols in the area

Perhaps if the NATO ships didn't let the damn pirates go again. The Danish ship Absalon which has just been down there, detaining some 80 pirates, but letting most go because there is no no way to really prosecute them.

I mean this gotta end, the politicians have get their heads out of their asses and get to work so it will be possible to throw pirates in jail. Or we could just shoot them, I really don't care what is done, just as long as something effective is done about it

This all thing about letting them go most stop. Under the international maritime law, captured pirates are completely ex lex. They should be kiiled on sight, screw "humanitarianism".

This can all be solved if the captured pirates were given a short drop and a quick stop instead of a free ticket home.

We should make the pirate activity more dangerous, a good pirate is a dead one...

It is very simple. Our ancestors knew it. Make the pirate life unbearable.

In politically incorrect terms that means kill them, but give their sons a chance.

We don't even need to do that.

Disable their boat's engines, and set them adrift away from shore somewhere. If 50% don't make it back, or make it back to the wrong part of Somalia (the parts where pirates are killed), piracy will quickly fall out of fashion.

Seriously the goverments are wasting thousands on ransoms when they can use just a little bit of fuel and capture the crews and take them in captivity

    Sidmen's suggestion seems fine too

Spanish, Russian, Indian and other fishing-fleets fish and Italian companys dump their toxic-waste in the Somali waters long before the pirate-hype and still = the local fishermen lost their means to make a living. The results easy recruits for the Somali pirate orgs and a very secure haven for them as well as the locals wont turn them in for obvious reasons.

My point is that the "military efforts" showed there will have no effect and the moral highground is not ours if these sort of things keep happening in Somalia, and in fact almost all over the continent as well.

Phew...for a while I thought the brave Somali sea rebels were quitting the good fight.

They should behead these worthless intruders this time.

I'm sick of these pirates being so soft towards those coming in their waters. Sure, they pick up $100 million a year by not killing their war priaway soners, but its time to start sending a message to stay away from Somali waters.

The more violent the pirates become, the heavier the consequences will be. The world won't stand idly by forever, soon these pirate scum will get whats coming to them, and I can't wait for that day.

    This
We a part of the problem. If you want to stop piracy then you need to attack its root cause, not its symptoms.
