Sadly, such a way does not exist.
What you should do, is gift the Pope a far away city, enshrouded with enemies, instead, so they will be plagued with this illness, rather than yourself.

Good things come to those who wait... But better things come to those who never hesitate.
I think you virtually kill him when not playing a catholic faction as following:
kill every catholic faction, kill the pope.
No new pope will be elected, and the Papal States will not be destroyed, only thing is, you can't see them anymore.
Men are more ready to repay an injury than a benefit, because gratitude is a burden and revenge a pleasure ~ Tacitus
Above post is the only way. But taking Rome will make sure he never gets an army, and you can kill him at your leisure.
heres some of my strategy to deal with papal but doesnt mean that this is the way to crush him
because HE IS A MUSHROOM!
Step 1
train lots of assassins
Step 2
increase their subterfuge by sabotaging settlements (including rome)
Step 3
train spies and infiltrate pope's capital
Step 4
get lots of assassins to sabotage the inn
Step 5
prevent the papal to train spies as they can be hindrance for your assassins to achieve their mission
Step 6
sabotage all of the papal's building and create chaos by putting the spies on stand by in rome
Step 7
when the people of rome rebel against the papal send your army to attack rome
Step 8
after getting the rome.... to get rid of the pope give him the Jerusalem (if uve succeed in crusading and occupy jerusalem)
Result:
papal's capital is jerusalem and rome is yours
papal's gone raped by the egypt and mongols
to prevent from being excommunicated - no problem the same steps but on faction you hated the most
rofl (france)
if the papal threats u with excommunication...
1. send spies and assassins to the faction u wanted to attack 3 per region is enough or 5
2. infiltrate it using spiess to increase the posibility that ur assassin succeed
3. use assassins to sabotage all the brothels and inn to prevent them to train spies which is yes pain in the butt to deal
4. destroy all the buildings that improves public order and pple's happiness (cities = affected the most)
5. after those cities have been rebelled againsts ur hated faction quickly send your army to that city and crush the rebels
- this strategy takes a lot of time to do but its really worthy than waiting the excommunication threat to finish ^^
btw if papal is destroyed by mongols and egypt crush him again using that strategy (funny but cruel rofl)
i love to play with papal the most ahahhahha ( to increase the relation with papal dont give tribute instead choose attack faction = rebel) again and again lol its a bug...yes it is that way you can increase your relationship with the papal without spending a dime lol
Rules:
1. never ever ever ever ever assissanate a character if its below 35%
2. sabotage first
3. if the assassin reached the grand conspirator trait no need to sabotage anymore just pawn any characters you like to increase its asssassination traits like hired blades
4. if your assassin failed his mission... get a stronger assassin to kill the target or else that target will gain lots of traits againsts assianation ex. (improve security traits)
if ya need me strategies jst pm me i can give ya a tip and advice![]()
If you want to destroy them! Do it in a cruel way!
OWNED ~!![]()
Not sure where this rule comes from. I saved myself a mountain of grief by assassinating the Timurid faction leader with only a 10% chance. The faction was destroyed and I was able to regain Constantinople, which had been fortified with elephants. Assassinations succeed very often at lower chances. The only caution is don't take a chance if getting caught is going to cause a war you don't want.

Well, you can kill/assassinate the College of Cardinals. Eventually, a new cardinal is promoted, but you won't hear from the arse for a nice amount of time.
When people ask me "plz", it is short for "please". When I say no, it is short for "yes".

It is also sometimes good to keep the Pope without a settlement at all. This way you can easily kill him on the battlefield if you don't like his lip, which is far easier than killing him through assassins. It's also an easy way to train your troops.

In Soviet Russia you want Uncle Sam.
I once had the Pope living on his only remaining ship, I swear. But he eventually landed somewhere down around Marseille and stayed there for the rest of the game. I don't remember if I tried offing him at that point, but I would've sunk his boat for fun if I'd known he was on board.
Is there any way to find the papal states? They lost Rome and now they lost Antioch and I can't find their last settlement!
Use the toggle_fow cheat I guess?

I have toggle_fow on but I still cant find them on the world map
lol i love having two units (heavy cavalry and good spearmen) and forcing the pope near the Rome coast (so no hard charges up hill) and then just charging him, and occasionally gaining a new family member.
There is no real way to actally "crush" the Papal states. Just take their cities, and try to kill the pope whenever there is a new on(I doubt a pope wil;l be elected from your faction)
Yeah, but don't you start to feel bad about killing the poper over and over? I agree with advice above that the best thing to do is give him one of the islands or some buffer province and let him stew somewhere on his own.

If you have a Muslim faction, and took Rome, and made it capital, the new popes that continue to reappear on the hills near Rome are a nice chance for the young family members coming on age and appearing in Rome for an easy battle to earn their first command stars.![]()
