    Default Retraing Impossible !!!

    Hi guys!, I´m looking for some help about scripting "export_descr_buildings"

    See, my problem is that ONLY in cities (no matter what size) I´m only able to train units but never RETRAIN them!, that made me think that editing the imperial palace should do the trick but I was mistaken, everything is just as it was, here take a look

    Nope , that last bit won't help it That just says that that is the final building in the building tree , and you can't upgrade it . I'd first take a good look at the barracks And how do you know you can't retrain those units ? It's hardcoded i thought , so you can't change it . the only other possibility is the fact that you can't retrain the units that the city can't make Btw , are you using a mod ? And what's up with this thing :

    Mmmm I see what you mean my friend but it seems that this mod "Arthurian TW:BI" is a little tricky. See, Swabian (AT:Team Member) wanted a "No Barracks" policy in the game, therefore all the units will be available when you upgrade the town/city
    Ah, yeah, I realised that I cannot retrain units because when I´ll need to do it in towns (no matter what size) it goes well but then in cities, I´m able to train units, but not retrain them!, it looks silly when you have a nice unit with some experience in combat and you can´t retrain...and you have to disband and make another one...
    And I´m not sure that the problem lies in the fact that maybe the city cannot produce them because you CAN!...silly as it sounds

    I tried to ask in the mod´s forum but it´s dead, nobody answers!

    So now an amateur like me is completly lost, hehe what should I do!?
    I have attached the file if you mate or someone would take a look. I´m deeply thankful for the help given anyway!

    That looks like something many mods do (my own included) to create special buildings that only the AI can have. What you do is create the building as normal, and add a hidden resource requirement to build it. Then you never put that hidden resource on the map, so it cannot be built. I call mine nowhere.

    Then you give it to the AI either via a campaign script that runs when you start a campaign, or through a background script that kicks in when certain conditions are met.

    Typically this is done to give the AI extra bonuses in money, etc... You can prevent the human player from receiving the bonuses by making the capability lines faction specific.

    In MTW2 , this is replaced by event counters , right ? Although they pretty much do them

    If the city recruitment bldg has no recruitment lines then of course you will not be able to retrain units that were recruited in the level before (or from another settlement). Watch out for cloned units too, they may not be retrainable as they are not the same unit (though they look similar in-game).
    It seems this is the case ..

    Show screens because what you're describing is impossible for non-mercenary units. If you can train a unit in a city, you can retrain the same unit in the same city. Mercenary units that are only available through the mercenary recruitment pool cannot be retrained, but they are the exception.

    I have ATW and will look myself when I have a chance-not installed yet as running another game just now. Swabian is around still and maybe also pm him to see??? I am not sure at forum details,hmm will check(doing TE gold mod so missed it sorry)?

    Squid the ATW system seems complex,but I will look at and use 'add_population' + 'process_cq' + 'add_money' cheats to build a city and see what happens? But,you are right,by normal rules if recruitable=retrainable.

    Kokito which faction are you using????? I will look at and reply in both ATW and here for when when I have answer????

    As you see, in every building as well as the agents and this population stuff, you find units..but not in the last one, this is the only thing that looks to me strange.
    Then after all that comes the other sorts of buildings like defensive, religious, etc...

    I doens´t matter what faction I use, with all of them I had problems in cities, never in towns...and I´ve got the Gold Edition.

    I agree, the ATW system is very complex!

    OK, I´ll post my new (perhaps???) discoverie:

    I´ve tried to take an unit that is only available in the last main building, imperial palace of course, and taking them to the lesser governor buildings and the same things happens only with this unit, I can create it but not retrain allow despite I can do it with the other ones...this is getting me crazy! . So it is behaving like ALL the units in cities...interesting, to say the least.

    What could it be then?, is there another file that intervenes here?, I have check this hidden_resourses but I don´t think that the problems lies there...

    If this is impossible for non-mercenarie units.....what is happening?

    If the city recruitment bldg has no recruitment lines then of course you will not be able to retrain units that were recruited in the level before (or from another settlement). Watch out for cloned units too, they may not be retrainable as they are not the same unit (though they look similar in-game).

    Forgive my ignorance but where is this "recruitment bldg"?

    Looking for clone units. ATW uses sometimes clones because some factions have the same sort of unit and the only thing that changes is the model colours, etc.

    See if it applies to this unit: "cliarthairi crodda" I noticed that many units do not appear in the first level and the last level. This unit does however. So, if that unit can be retrained, you have no problem. Well other than that the mod uses a bunch of clone units and confuses players apparently.

    Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

    Well that unit specially is one of those that can only be train in certain areas...as for these nice clones are only intended to drive us insane!

    Sorry delay Bro,had been sleepy from work..snorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre so didn't get chance to reply.

    I have to work on another mod so can't install game and see all details,maybe weekend? But from text files,aghhh.

    1. Buildings have set progressions per settlement,that is a settlement level required to build,ie Village-Town-Large Town-City-Large City-Huge City in this order(six settlement types,but 5 listed on game screen-town onwards). But ATW does not use this..several buildings are repreated in settlement upgrades,which is very wierd and sort of screws the system,ie here is the correct list:

    2. His Imperial Palace has Nooooooooooo Units recruitable so you can't do anything when you have it! And I think it is disabled going by 'doesnot exist' condition???? Wierd stuff here.

    I will add the units and change building format for you and remove the condition listed to see what gives??? I do not like the system here,should have buildings for recruitment like in BI&RTW vanilla. And perhaps names in English ie Pict Heavy Spear,with cultural names in UI descriptions better. wait for my text file for you OK.

    Well, It was a nice try, but it didn´t work, I still get the same problem, no change as far as I can tell, I´m beginning to think that the problems lies in some other part.
    Not only the ATW forum is dead, but also I´m the only one with this problem...or nobody tells either way I got no answer yet from ATW team members.

    I´ll try sort taking some files from the installation and replaced them, see what we get (again)

    Hmmm,problem is his hidden resource and building level irregularities,it makes things difficult to shift through. If I have a chance I will try to rewite the system as a normal BI&RTW recruit system as optional to the game,the Raven Feeders is only other avenue if Swabian and others away???

    As for clones,hmmmm is George Lucas aware??? Heh. Not sure clone system...have to look at files better. Sorry it very difficult and complex system in place at ATW,the thought is 'cluttered'. I know your post in ATW about this,but will update both when have a chance to resolve this issue????

    This is the first Raven Feeders patch, I took export_descr_buildings from there I was looking at it and of course you find normal building trees like in vanilla but still those hidden_resourse all over the file...here I attached the whole file.

    I´m thinking that if with the old raven feeders there was no problem maybe be can import something from there...? perhaps is the new map that screw everything up...?

    Ahh, don´t bother mate, in the ATW forum I post to see if some nice soul would share with all of us if it´s my sole problem or what, anyway I check always both!

    Hey no worries for my post in the other forum, my comments there are intended to wake people up . I know things get weird when modding but if you made a mod and you keep coming up with new patches that is great, but they must know that RESPONSABILITY comes with the package. (Did It sounded like my grandpa? heh)

    I understand about bumping the threads there in ATW. As for Raven Feeders,my idea was contact them to know what gives as they have better grasp of the system. There is also another group,gee can't recall name though involved with modelling ATW system. The hassle I find is I don't know what exactlly they have hidden resources for???? Like 'resource does not exist' thing,like huh??? I understand AORs..regions of recruitment,but hmmm this system I can't fathom..a real complex puzzle. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr(I feel like "Animal' on the Muppets heh). I will get a caffine fix and look at the files again. I think I may need them 3d Glasses heh....

    Thank you Kylan, I cannot recall what was their name either...but anyway, I have tried some things to see (is it possible!?) where the problems lie, but as you said this is extremely complex!!! so much hidden_resourse that I feel I need to hide something in my own house just in case...anyway I created a separate unit from another, the matrix was avaliable in low-level buildings and it turn out that I can retrain it...except in cities..but then I did the same with a high-level unit only recluitable in cities and It got what I was suspecting...no recruitment EVEN in towns...

    Mmmmm, don´t know...see what lies ahead!
