Default Harriet Harman sprouts on about feminism

Labour 'men-only leadership' over One of Labour's top two posts should always be held by a woman, Deputy Leader Harriet Harman has told a paper.

She does "not agree with all-male leaderships" because men "cannot be left to run things on their own" she told the Sunday Times.

A balanced team of men and women make "better decisions," she added.

The MP reportedly tried to change the party's rules to ensure a female was always in a top job shortly after winning the deputy leadership contest.

In an interview with the paper, Ms Harman said she thought there would never be a men-only team of leadership in the Labour Party again.

"People would look at it and say, 'What? Are there no women in the party to be part of the leadership? Do men want to do it all themselves?'," she told the paper.

She said the party "owed it to women" to have a female in one of the two top jobs, to makes sure the concerns of women voters were properly taken into account when decisions were being made.

Female political leaders were "coming of age" internationally, she added.

    'Insufferably arrogant'

Speaking on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, Ms Harman said the government had a "team of women and men ministers making sure this country gets through this economic crisis".

She said comments Labour had already lost the next election were "insufferably arrogant" and "a team of women and men in Labour - which is the party of equality - were fighting to win".

Her remarks follow Lord Mandelson's call for Labour to "roll its sleeves up" and take the fight to the Conservatives.

Ms Harman has led a campaign to promote more women to top jobs, particularly in the City.

Under her controversial new equality bill, women will find it easier to demand equal pay and employers will be given a legal right to discriminate in favour of female candidates.

Does anyone else think this is complete and utter feminist ?

Call me shovanist pig, but shouldn't we have people who are elevated to positions of power based on their merit, not sex? Why should women have an automatic right to one of the two jobs? Why should men be discriminated against when applying for the same job as a women?

And when she says 'to makes sure the concerns of women voters were properly taken into account when decisions were being made.' well, why then shouldn't we always have, say, a muslim or a catholic so that they're respective voters views can be taken into account?

Her logic is utterly flawed, and dare I say insulting.

    It's man (singular) not men.

Although I agree in principal here, one single job position is not much of an issue IMO.

In elections, it's all about numbers.
If they can get just 1% more women to vote for them by having a women in the top 2, it's probably worth it.

Most parties try to have at least one representative of each big minority group in their top, say the top 15 or so.

Ban her, imprison her, kill her.

She's a complete muppet, it's funny every Labour women in Government is someone I hate. Harman, Blears(although shes now gone) Hewitt, Beckett, Smith. All of them vile, horrible creatures. But Harman is the worst. I also hate that fat blob party shill on "This Week" that follows question time. (I don't mean Michael Portillo)

Nothing wrong with being paid the going rate. Unless you are a male stripper or similar the possession of a penis should be a consideration as for as pay is concerned.

and employers will be given a legal right to discriminate in favour of female candidates
After some years fighting discrimination against women in the workplace I find this proposal troubling to say the least. I hope Parliament throws this proposal out. Blokes require fair treatment too.

Send her back to the kitchen

    /joke

Now seriously...that's retarded. Nobody is entitled to a job (especially an important one) just because of their race, sex, religion, etc.

I really don't get it. The people in the top jobs should be the people most suited and capable of doing those jobs.

By her logic, they could have a Goverment with 10 of the best politicians ever, and if they're all blokes then you'd have to demote some of them just to fit women in.

I think it is beyond argument that the present government is dominated but men who are for all intent and purposes utterly useless.

Where Harman's argument falls is that their female counterparts are equally useless, Jaqui Smith, Hazel Blears, Harperson herself... hardly leadership material. The problem is not gender, it's their politics.

The same thing applies to minorities as well. Its annoying but an unfortunate fact of life we have to live with. The world wants to make it absolutely suck to be a white man.

Gordon doesn't like minorities that much. Other than Baroness Scotland, all the minority MPs have been sidelined as far as I can see. . Harman's not bothered unless they have tits.

Harman as always been man hating and insane. Quite frankly, she will literally destroy the Labour Party if she ever became Leader. Which I don't even think is a good thing.

So creating discrimination within the two most important jobs in the country is not much of an issue? Are you serious?

All in the name of equality, who cares about ability.

Which is typical labour policy isn't it. Their bloody minded pursuit of absolute perfection in equality is prejudicial and really just plain old wrong. What scares me is these are the people with the power to influence everything.

Oh I do. I'd rather have Tories and Liberals with a failing Labour part.

Not really. When the Labour Party falters the rats leave for the Liberal Party. Hence why the Liberal Party is such a schizophrenic mess today.
