    Default I am a noob

    Hello

I just bought medieval II total war about 3 days ago, the first thing I did was to download this mod because it looked pretty cool. I am playing as the Teutonic knights and one thing I noticed is that I was unable to build some of my units at my main castle. The army build queue said that I had the max number of units of that type or something like that. Is this a feature in this mod or is it in vanilla and how am I able to build more units of a certain type?

please help because the Lithuanians are kicking my a$$ pretty bad at the moment.

I recommend playing Vanilla first with the advisor on and then come back to SS. This is mainly because SS is a bit harder than vanilla and on top of that the teutonic knights are a hard faction to play . They have a rubbish economy.

    Thanks for the response!
I will have to try out vanilla then. It makes me sad however because the Teutonic Knights look awesome.

You have restirctions on recruitment in vanilla as well, although it is more relaxed. You could stick with SS and just lower the difficulty whilst you learn the ropes (so you can get all the SS goodies!)

Every other faction will not give me trade because my power is ranked as "Pathetic" so I have to give large amounts of money to even begin trading.
I was doing alright until my main attacking force was utterly destroyed in the open battle field. I had no money and was unable to pay for my captured units so they where slaughtered. In the same turn those damn lithuanians besieged all 3 of my settlements, I lost my capital castle but won the fight in my other two settlements. My faction leader just won two heroic victories defending one of settlements where I was outnumbered 2 to 1 each time. I might have to stick with SS cause I want those damned lithuanians to pay dearly.

Its probably not worth it to pay money for trade rights early in the game. You don't make much money for awhile. It takes time to build up the trade and make better markets and trade routes. Best to concentrate your money especially if its limited on buying more troops. Also remember that the more regions you control the better your trade revenue will get so while you are small don't worry about trade, the AI will usually offer it for free at some point.

There is limit on how many units you can have operating from a limited population base so if you want bigger armies... you gotta capture some more regions or buy mercenaries which actually often are a bit stronger than your own units early in the game. Later in the game your own units are the best.

Thanks for all the replies. I will try and get my capitol back and maybe snag a few more settlements from them enemy so I will be able to build my more elite units.

If you're having trouble with the Lithuanians, then you can call a crusade on them. They are a pagan faction, and the Pope will declare war on them. Once the crusade starts, most catholic factions will also go to war with them. This way, they'll have to concentrate on the other factions too, so to give you some breathing space.

unless you're playing an isolated faction like england or norway, it's better to secure one border with an alliance and make war upon your lesser enemies.

don't pay for trade unless it's with a very wealthy nation as you'll get the lesser part of the deal.

Don't worry, just war it out with every nation near you if they attack. Ally with ones that you'll never attack. This will help you get better at fighting battles =P.

You're playing the Teutonic Knights? I have a few tips for you.

    - Ally with countries you don't want to deal with. Poland is a bad idea for this, as every TO or HRE game I've played, they have betrayed me. It's simply inevitable. Keep your relations high with occasional gifts, and your allies won't betray you ('cept Poland...).
    - Call a crusade on Lithuania AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. When your armies are crusading, you not only get access to the incredibly cheap Crusader mercenaries, but your entire army suddenly has free upkeep for the duration of the crusade!!
    - The instant you have a full-flag army on the field (meaning the army consists of the 20 units you can have in a single army), your military power should be enough that giving Trade Rights to other countries will be considered Generous. If this is the case, you can easily milk about 1,000 florins from each country you establish Trade Rights with. This will help pad your treasury as well.
    - Take Lithuania out asap. Their land, as far as I've found, is pretty essential in early TO campaigns for the additional cities. This really helps boost your economy.

From there, you have plenty of options, though after taking Lithuania, this is usually when Poland betrays me and attacks. But outside of that, you can really pick and choose your battles. Which is a really nice fact. The only countries that can really attack you are Poland, Kiev, Russia, and Denmark. With some clever diplomacy, you can most likely narrow your wars to one front only. That should help out.

    Good luck in your campaign!

it's because of the descr_faction_standing you can change this. poland and hre have TERRIBLE innate relationships. same with to.
