Default Warrior Popes do hold grudges

The scene: Scotland on H/H bout 110 turns in.

    The Good Guys: Papacy, Scotland, France & Poland {all allied}

The Excommunicated Scum of the earth: MILAN{naturally}, The Normans{England}, the Danes, & HRE

The setting: Scotland holds the British Isles plus the coastline from Rennes to Arhus. The Normans in Caen. the
Scots allied with the Papacy asap and built a huge Cathedral in Edinburgh.

The Plot: early on Milan declares war on the Papacy {naval blockade I think} and so it begins. Within nothing flat
the Papal states range from Rome taking all northern Italy erasing Milan except for Corsica. Once a Scot was pope
it was open season on the UNCLEAN. Even after the Popes death the mandates continued under the young novice
Pontiff.Crusades were called against The Normans and Danes four til now and still no returning these heathens to the
church. England is no more and still the Pope thirsts for vengeance.
During each Crusade a Papal contingent is present. {The Papal staes are fielding 6 full stacks BTW.... Oh btw the
French invade Germany thru Metz, four stacks and relentless battles ALL with papal support. I've never seen so many
factions losing so many provinces without returning to the fold. between The Normans, Danes, & HRE four crusades
and nine provinces taken from the UNCLEAN.

Conclusion: Beware & Be forewarned..."Warrior Popes do hold grudges"

    The tension builds....

I have a feeling Mega has given not just money, but the precious soil of Europe to the Pope. I fear the world will become a cinder.

Well I would advise you to not piss off the pope, but this does set the stage for an early world war!

I've only once seen the Papal States seriously flex it's muscles - I was playing the Portugeese, and naturally hadn't much to do with them. However, upon goin on Crusade I was surprised to find a Papal Garrison at Naples, a bit startled to find one at Durazzo... but by the time I saw the Crozier waving above the walls of Constantinople, I was distinctly aware that it would be in my best interests to attend Sunday Mass more regularly.

Most other times his army just wanders around southern France, not doing a great deal.

I've seen the Pope go on a rampage before...
I've once had a Pope which was EXTREMELY warmongering, he started an invasion of Venice and conquered everything, Bologna, Venice, Florence, Milan and Genoa, and he started destroying the rest of Venice, besieging Ragusa, Durazzo and Ajaccio... Be afraid, my friends... Be very afraid...

In my game, everything has gone to . Spain owns all of Iberia and a bit of France. The Pope owns all of Italy, and as far north as Hamburg. Denmark owns the whole Northern coast of Europe, and I am sitting tight on the British Isles and the New World. The Timurids own the rest.

The Pope went on a serious offensive basically killing Poland (who owned most of Germany), and then France, and then Hungary. The pope is now in an epic war with the Timurids, but he has no chance to win.

I have a story just as scary...Once I captured Jerusalem on the 3rd crusade when I just found out the Mongols had arrived in baghdad i immediatly gave it to the pope, a couple turns later I got a note "antioch A new home for the mongols" and then 10 turns later I saw "mongols on the move again" so i decided to go back over there...and like in A horror movie I saw 20 turns later from Antioch to Baghdad to Gaza was under the papal banner and pretty sure i saw 4-5 full Papal stacks and maybe 3 mongol stacks...that is SCARY O_O
