    Default S.P.Q.R. Mod Help

Ok, so I am kind of new to moding games and things like this. Every game I dowload mods for has a completely different process. So, first of all, I downloaded S.P.Q.R. Mod for Rome: Total War and it worked great, easy installation. But I have Rome: Total War on Steam, so it downloads updates automatically without me having to install them. So I have had the mod for about 1-2 days, and as I quit the game a message pops up saying new updates have been installed. I checked it and it said nothing about R:TW. (But I should mention I read a post on a website and it said if an update is installed for R:TW and you have a mod for it, you have to reinstall the mod.) I also checked my last update for R:TW and it said it was last updated August 28 2007. But now for some reason the game goes black on the battle loading screen, (Same thing happened to the person I mentioned before who had posted the thread) and an error message pops up saying "Microsoft has found an error." Every time I try to have a battle the same thing happens. So, that has explained what I am experiencing when I try to play a battle. Now for the instructions I need. An answer on a different website said "Did you do an update? That will mess with any mod. What you should probably do is a fresh install. Then copy those files. Keep one copy vanilla as a backup. Then make one copy for each of the mods that you plan on using. But if you want to play an updated vanilla rtw you should keep another copy for that.

    So:
    Copy 1 - initial install
    Copy 2 - spqr mod
Copy 3 - updated vanilla copy

This is honestly the best way to do it"

Now I do not trust myself to do all the things alone. This is why I am in the forum. I do not know what a "Vanilla Copy" is. I know how to delete the mod it just doesn't seem like if I delete it the way I want to ddelete it, it won't delete the whole mod. What I do is go into the file where the mod is located and right click on the S.P.Q.R. file that says "SPQR_Readme" and an option says delete, so I click on that and it says "Are you sure you want to remove the folder 'SPQR_Readme' and move all it's contents to the Recycle Bin?" And that is what gets me "Recycle Bin," it doesn'r really completely delet the whole file. It only deletes a part of the file. Well, thats what I was taught. You really need to go into the "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.

So, in all, what I am trying to say is, what is a Vanilla File? And How do I reinstall This mod so that it works. If any additional details are needed, I will provide them. I am willing to do what it takes to make this mod works again. If the forum of which I got the ansmwer from is needed, I will post it.

A Vanilla file is anything from the original installation. Anything that is not modded that is. The whole folder, with all the files. To my knowledge, you can either do it the way you proposed with copying the whole folder if you want to keep vanilla or have more than 1 mod. However, you can also turn off steam automatically updating your RTW. Rightclick RTW under the tab "My Games" and then go into the tab "Properties" then in the "Updates"-tab you can chose if you want steam to automatically update the game or not. If you mod the game to SPQR for example, I advice you to chose Steam not to update the game. This should solve your problems!

But I need the information I stated up in my other post. But, yes Thank You for telling me what a Vanilla File is, but I don't know how to delete/reinstall this mod again. I really just need step by step descriptive information on how to do this. Once I know how to do this I will know how to do it for any mod I download for this game.

You can't just uninstall the mod, it changes all your vanilla files. If you are using Steam as you said, then you have to remove the game using steam, then install it again (using Steam). It sucks, but thats the way of Steam...
