Default Man shot dead in Turkey over smoking ban

A smoker shot dead a man and wounded another after he was told to stub out his cigarette at a restaurant in Turkey in line with a recent government ban, the Anatolia news agency reported Wednesday.

The gunman was drinking and smoking with friends in a restaurant in the town of Kumkuyucak, in the Western province of Manisa, when the manager and his friend told them to put out their cigarettes, Mayor Veli Yalcin told the agency.

In the ensuing fight, the assailant opened fire, wounding the manager and killing his 46-year-old friend, who was an accountant at the local municipality, the Mayor said

Shooting someone for telling you to put out your cigarette?

Some people just have MAJOR issues, I suppose

Well, there is a saying on the Balkans "you smoke like a Turk" for someone that smokes a lot or is passionate about smoking.

A Turkish friend of mine jokingly said that there will be people killed over this ban. Ironically he does not smoke.

I hope that the gunman enjoys the Turkish prison system, killing for a cigarette.

Generally it seems that in Anatolia similar events happen from times to times someone
with large ego and probably ill educated and fanatic starts shooting for a reason of honor .

In Greece we say that we force smoking ban but in reality we just cheat for one more time EU.

once when i was very young, i saw a guy beat to death another guy over a parking spot in Hell's Kitchen, New York. The cops tried to make me ID the culprit. I didnt rat him out. My dad said "you did a good deed, for a bad man".

When i was older, i realised that it wasnt about a parking spot. It was about respect and the law of the street. Sometimes its better to be feared than loved.

Two shots and one fatality? Lucky Strike, I suspect.

Prolly a Camel herder. I wonder what Winston would say about this? Perhaps he would be more welcome in Newport?

I think it was the drinking, not the smoking

Mind showing any other source? Such a news would be surely on CNN Turk or NTV but neither have a fraction of it.

A little extreme on the smoker,s part.
Having said that, I live in a country which followed the original New York rules and then proceeded to crusade thoughout the EU.
As a smoker there are times when standing outside my favourite hostelry in the pouring rain in mid winter trying to get a quick smoke. Dark thoughts have entered my head about what I would like to see happen to the health facist minister who started all this nonsense.

This guy obviously has issues, which do not relate to his habit, but rather his mental problems.
I also find it quit funny how people go crazy about someone smoking near them, while they don't pay attention to smoke produced by their own cars.

I know this café wich used to be full every day, since the smoking ban, they lost most their customers, when there are 10 people now, that is a buisy night, they allow people to smoke, but don't give ashtray's because of the gouverment checks, people fold ashtray's from the thing you put under your glass (don't know the word) annyway, I can imagine people getting agressive over this ban, if I would be smoking there and the gouvement official comes to check if the ban is upheld, I'd be hard pressed not to throw my glass against his filthy health gestapo face.

Some guy stabbed to death a bar owner in my state because the bar owner did not want the fine.

They need a "no guns and alcohol" campaign in turkey before starting a smoking ban?
