Default Tactics for attacking Greeks armies

Well I don't know if it is already posted but anyway I want to know what is the best position to attack Greeks armies asides form flanks which is one way what other tactics you use and if its possible put pictures like the one posted in the help guide of the first 15 turns which it worked for me since the positions posted there work so well it carthage and gauls but with greece I have doubts since they have hoplites is a wall of spears and flanks work but it can be hard if they have calvarie too support the sides

any help writed ir in picture specially will be appreciated

Well I dun have any picture, but since Greeks use phalanx heavily and they are not that much mobile, you have to outmaneuver them. Javelins and arrows from sides, circle around to take out their missile troops, focus down the general, improvise, choose the terrain and such things Its not really a single guide against them, but basically, halt them with a line, wear them down, hit with 2nd line, then finish with cavalry or any BIG infantry charge since they have little charge bonus

yeah I know is way but since the mod makes the spartan hoplites almost fearless is hard to take them out and cause in the beginning of the game a real pain

if you can save your triarii while the rest of the greeks rout, then send your triarii round the back and charge.

I find the checkerboard pattern of roman legions works wonders (especially if you're on the defensive) since they got stalled on your first layer of legions (hastati for example) then they can get individually flanked by the secondary legions in the second line, then i usually have a selection of Velites (or Archers in vanilla) to lay down a barrage of missiles to break their cohesion and inflict more casualties whilst my infantry slug it out.

Something like this. Although generally i go with less triarii since they're very rarely cavalry heavy; and of course i'd include my heavy cavalry wing also on one side or the other depending upon the terrain (try to get the high ground to launch a powerful cavalry charge downhill)

Then i usually have a cavalry heavy wing (4+ units of Equites in Vanilla, or Italian Cav in RTRPE) and rout their cavalry wing and then roll up the phalanxes from the flank.

I find this usually works in offensive operations too you just have to be a little more careful and organized in your attack.

Alternatively if the AI is being stupid you can taunt them into attacking your well setup defensive line by antagonizing them with ranged units and then crushing them as mentioned above.

Took me ages to learn how to beat phalanxes but i haven't lost a battle yet this way (playing against the AI anyways, playing other people is always harder and more demanding). Still, the damn greeks just don't know when to quit, i've hammered them for about 60 years and they still feel necessary to attack my right flank!

    Goodluck on the battlefield.

The spartans are dying quite fast against javelins. Order your skirmishers to fire at them at any cost just like they were elefants.
If you retreat you will age. Be afraid and you'll die.

like elephants ha I use that and later tell you how it goes thanks this spartans just don't run they are brave and I like it is more challenging even if I loss only with them like 200 to 300 units well lets see how it goes and hope this thread helps those looking to know other ways of defeating hoplites units specially the spartans

Any armoured units, or HEAVILY armoured units usually suffer greatly from slingers and javelins in general. Archers are good only from sides or behind or if they have like 3 gold chevrons they kick some buttz
