Default Wiring a web for global good

Gordon Brown gives this great TED speech. He's also quite funny at times.

It is said that in Ancient Rome that when Cicero spoke to his audiences, people used to turn to each other and say about Cicero, "Great speech." But it is said that in Ancient Greece when Demosthenes spoke to his audiences, people turned to each other and didn’t say "Great speech." They said, "Let's march." We should be marching towards a global society. Thank you.
My opinion on the man has actually formed. I like him and this idea.

Honestly I just skimmed through the transcript and took the last paragraph. Of course you can just watch the damn thing.

i want no part of a global society, its just an idealists authoritarian utopia.
I come in peace, I didn't bring artillery. But I am pleading with you with tears in my eyes: If you F___ with me, I'll kill you all.

Ok so he knows a few clever quotes.. I actually heard the entire thing, he is basically just proposing global authoritarianism for all the worlds problems. A bit naive and intellectually lazy.

    World hunger?
We need a global institution to address it. (What about the U.N. and it's shortcomings)
    Global warming?
We need a global institution to get (force) other people on board.
    Economic crisis?
We need a global institution to watch countries' economies and adjust them accordingly.

    Seriously man...

I think what he is proposing is a wonderful idea. I agree something has to be done about Africa. I like his views on becoming an exporter of food rather than an importer. Hiv and Aids most definatly need to be adressed. The Rwandan genoside was deplorable, and why didn't the UN help? Oh yeah, the UN is impotent. But now the American cynisism. I could never support a state mandated global welfare union that was manditory. I could not sell America's soverinty to nations around the globe under the guise of good will. It has to be up to the individuals to decide on participation, not the American Government robbing it's citizens at gun point in the form of taxes. Nor could a law be passed forcing it's citizens to do so. Perhaps Gordon Brown should set up a World Charity. I think more leaders should lend thier names and time in bolstering support, so long as it isn't manditory.

Is that Gordon Brown's agenda? Ending the nation-state?
