    Default A possible scenario?

So let's say in the future (Or even near future) the world's governments are still pretty much the same, Democracy is a large part of first world nations and Communism is still staying strong within China and Russia, etc. Now, lets say we come in contact with an Alien race, obviously their space faring and to do so must have a successful government in place.

I'm pretty sure the human race has covered every government type you can possibly have, meaning the Aliens will most likely be using a recognized government. The aliens if they try to engage in diplomacy instead of destroying the planet will most likely favor the government type that resembles their own? What if their a Communist type government, I could see this being the end of Democracy as we know it, or vice versa.

    It's just a thought I had.

This is a serious thought, and I'm sure if we EVER engage in alien diplomacy it'll be a huge issue. I know I'm using the basic government types, but this goes for every single government type.

If the Aliens have a communist government, and they didn't become extinct within 80 years, it means we can learn something from them. Theoeritacally communism doesn't rule out democracy.

Assuming they could travel so far, means that they have considerably a greater deal of wealth than humankind. So if they are truly communist in the original sense of the word, they should redistribute those wealth among the proletariat of Earth and give the political power to the people - undermine their own system. So no worries for us. If they are human-like communist however, they should be destroyed. And by "human-like" communist I mean real communist, not semi-intellectual-pantyhose-boy-sitting-in-mommas-basement-wearing-che-guevara-t-shirt-enjoying-the-benefits-of-capitalism-creaming-over-communist-websites-doing-nothing-communist.

Shouldn't be a real problem, we'd be in awe they are aliens and we would check out the alien woman and their 4 breasts.

If intelligent aliens could reach Earth, they would undoubtedly do it after achieving time/space warping technology, virtually unlimited energy/resources, robots supplying all manual labor, medical immortality, etc.

Which means, if they wanted to do anything to improve our lives, they need only share with us that technology -- after that, who cares what political system comes with it? Those enhancements automatically solve 99.9999% of all human conflict in one fell swoop (no war and almost no crime for a start). It would probably be a communistic society in the sense that every has more than they could ever want without even inputting effort(computers and robots do the job better).

    China and Russia are communist?

No, not at all. There are millions of government types we haven't thought of, and even of the many we have few have been tested or used in the real world. Look at how our economies and ways of life and technologies have changed - and our governments with it. To assume we know of nearly every government possible to us is absurd.

And these are aliens. They would most probably be completely different to us - think completely different to humans, have completely different motives, needs, morals, economies, ways of life (and technologies). Hence, the idea that they're way of government (hell they might work without a government in our in our meaning of the word), will be like the governments we recognise today is a pretty far-fetched and unlikely assumption.

I hope they're not a hive with hive-mind. We'd need Jedi for that.

no, what if they capture a jedi and he becomes part of the hive? it would be the dark nest crisis all over again.

on topic: i really doubt an alien civilization would have a government recognizable to us. we've only come to these theories of government as a result of our history, and i assume a species from another planet would have a history quite different than ours. also communsim doesn't mean death to democracy.

Lol, does it matter, Communist, non-Communist???
USA talks to China, and China is officially Communist
USA talked to the USSR, and those were obviously Communist.
USSR and Nazi Germany once had a pact... so Ideology by far is irrelevant when it comes to aliens, if you ask me.

Unless the Aliens hold to their ideologies with far greater tenacity than we tend to...
