    Default a few more questions

First off I want to say that you guys have done an amazing job with this mod. It has so much depth and detail. I’m especially impressed with the battlemap AI.

    1) How do you get a general into your family tree? Playing as the sassanids, I have a general called Xerxes who always fights alongside the King and is super strong at only 24 years old. I really want to get him into my family tree but I’m not sure how. Marriage? adoption? How does this work exactly?

    2) Often times I can’t exchange retinues between generals. I drag and drop the retinue onto the general’s card when they in the same army but sometimes it doesn’t work. Do they have to be in a city or something?

    3) Have the sizes of the battlemaps been increased over the vanilla version? They seem a lot bigger, especially when I play a custom battle on grassy flatland. That map seems almost double the vanilla grassy flatland.

    4) Do any of the Sassanid heavy cavalry units have armor piercing weapons? Most of them switch to swords when you alt-right click, except for the elite “Savaran Gripanvar” unit which seems to have a mace. Is that armor piercing?
Also, does the sword do more damage than the lance for melee?

    5) When I play a custom battle and I set the AI opponent to be on DEFENSE, he ATTACKS me! I don’t understand this. I really want to try fighting against a full stack roman army that is STANDING STILL waiting for me to attack so I can try out some tactics but he always comes at me, even if I don’t make a move.

Anyway, I’ll post some screenshots of my campaign and battles later on for you guys.

Thank you. I'm glad you are enjoying the mod.

Your general needs to be adopted by the ruling family. This is usually done if your general achieves great things in battle etc.

    2) Often times I can’t exchange retinues between generals. I drag and drop the retinue onto the general’s card when they in the same army but sometimes it doesn’t work. Do they have to be in a city or something?
Only ancillaries can be exchanged, and yes, the characters have to be in the same city.

    3) Have the sizes of the battlemaps been increased over the vanilla version? They seem a lot bigger, especially when I play a custom battle on grassy flatland. That map seems almost double the vanilla grassy flatland.
Yes, the map now extends to the Indus in India and of course this mod includes the Indian Guptas (all those elephants!!)

    4) Do any of the Sassanid heavy cavalry units have armor piercing weapons? Most of them switch to swords when you alt-right click, except for the elite “Savaran Gripanvar” unit which seems to have a mace. Is that armor piercing?

The super heavy savaran and gyan avspa have armour piercing maces.

Don't have an answer to this. sorry.

Anyway, I’ll post some screenshots of my campaign and battles later on for you guys
    Look forward to it.

As far as I know they always do, regardless whether you're playing vanilla or a mod. I guess it is how the engine works

Great Stuff there. I noticed though, that you are still using the old patch. are you aware of the latest patch 3 that is now available. It has made changes to some units such as the huns, kidirites, some roman units, but also altered archer attack points and mounted archers ranges. You should check it out. And I'm curious as to what level you are playing on. I always recommend H/VH.

    Cheers

I wasn't aware that my version is outdated. All I could find is the 3.0 BETA version which is located here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=126462
is that all I need? and how do I check which version I currently have now?

Oh and btw I'm playing on H/VH. I was gonna make the battle difficulty VH too, but that's not realistic as the AI gets a morale bonus.

That is correct, but if you scroll down a bit further you will come across the latest patch, which is now up to Patch 3. It's worth installing as it fixes various bugs plus includes revised skins for various units. Check it out.

Revised export_descr_unit.txt file with altered mounted archer ranges and archer attack points
Can you be more specific on these changes?

Also, will this affect my current savegame? Will I have to start a new campaign?

The actual details are listed in the Download section, but effectively include revised textures for the Huns, Kidirites, some roman and sassanid units as well as the reduced ranges for mounted archers. And it should not effect any saved games, but I always say keep a saved base game anyway.

    Cheers

Ok thanks. I'll install that patch.

Say, the sassanid campaign i'm playing is fun, but unfortunately it has gotten too easy at this point. Is there any way to spice it up a bit by giving the AI factions more money, or more armies mid-game? I want to make it harder somehow, but I don't want to gift them all the cities I've conquered.

I took off FOG OF WAR for a second. Here are some screens of the campaign map, as you can see, not many full stacks left anywhere anymore:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

btw, i'm going to post more screenshots of some nice battles I had in the screenshots thread.

Yes, that is one of the problems with the AI, it is just plain dumb! You can try upping your seetings to very hard for battles, which, as you know, gives a higher morale bonus for AI factions.

I suppose I could shorten recruitment times for higher quality units but then people would just reruit rolls royce armies which is not very historical. Isuppose cash injections and spawning additional armies may assist things abit.

Yeah I don't think recruitment times should be messed with.

So how would I inject cash and armies into the Romans and Huns mid-game?

Hey i dont wanted to open a new thread for this not really difficult questions...well for first i have installed
SOMNIUM APOSTATAE IULIANI now. If i klick on the button on my desktop there appears this message:
"RomeTW-BI.exe is searched. Klick on browse through to search it yourself."
Well if i then go on my RTW folder and klick on BI.exe there starts automaticly RTW. But its really confuising...the starting process is like in Bi with the introductionfilm of BI but the design of menu is like in RTW and i can only play the RTW campaign with the Julians, Bruttis and the blue ones...
Pls help me! The installation proceded normally without crashes or any problems...so what did i wrong?

PS: If i want play the other IB mods do i need to deinstall SOMNIUM APOSTATAE IULIANI or do they work all together and are all compatible to each other?!

This does seem like an install error as the installation should create a desktop icon which when clicked on will launch IJ.

I would suggets that you try reinstalling and see if this corrects the problem. I assume that you are using Install Version 2.

If this still fails, then have a look at the Download thread in the IJ forum and follow the instructions to manually create a desktop icon.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

You need to make sure your data folder for IJ is actually in the IJ folder.

The data Folder of BI? or what do mean?!

I forgot smth really important in my first post...i have no IB Folder in my normal Programm menu...i mean the one if you go on start then programs...its just not there :/
Well and i have not found any deinstall posibility in the IJ folders...
I have tryed the manual installation of the shortcut to the icon on desktop...well for first the message i had to copy there:
    -mod:IJ -show_err was already there.
And second if i wanted to close the
properties with ok there appeared this massage:
The name in the Target Box "D:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" is not valid. Pls ensure that the path- and datanames are correct.
    Well whats wrong then..?
Just for info i have tryed to install RR a long time ago and there happened the same...
Well a last maybe important edit i have the gold edtion. I had no problems with it to install eb on it but maybe its with IB different.

Well, if I read all that correctly...

I think what he means is the data folder for Invasio Julianorum, not BI as IJ has its own seperate folder with data and all that. The installation sounds incorrect, as in you may have installed it in the wrong location. To me...and I am no expert...it sounds like the IJ install is not in the right spot. I had a similiar problem, though with Rio's IBFD BRG, where I kept getting the vanilla BI when I went to run the IB icon. IJ needs to be installed directly into your Rome Total War folder.

While installation i have chosen my RTW Folder...but i got anyway 2 IJ folder, 1 outside 1 isnide...
Well i have an idea maybe i have it to install directly in my Bi folder?! And for second how i mentioned i did not found a deinstall button or smth...if i just delete the folder will it be uninstalled?!

You just need to install IJ directly into your Rome Total War where ever it may be installed, it doesn't need to go into BI at all....just deleting the IJ folder is enough to have it removed I think.

For first before i try to reinstall...is it right that IJ 3.0 -Beta is the first that i need to install and is the main installation and second is IJ beta patch 3. If this is not right correct me.
