    Default break alliance to win "long game" (win condition settlements)

    im playing unmodded high elves and i am close to winning the "short campaign" (=smashing ootm + 30 settlements).

    assuming i want to beat also "long campaign" (=50 settlements + certain settlements)

    since i support allies my allies may have some of victory condition settlements.

    would you break alliances to win the long campaign?

    if common methods fail like:
    * spies for rebellion
    * trading city

    no never - never betray your allies. it is simple to get settlements from allies.
    you already have a diplomatic advantage when you are allied and than simply
    trade one or a few settlements for the one you want to have.

    in my rohan campaign i conquered the whole mordor terretories to win. later
    exchanged them all 6 against two gondorian settlements (huge cities with over
    20.000 inhabitants and over 3000 income a turn) and they accepted happily. so
    i guess 1:2 is a realistic exchange proportion.

    As jan said...
    Moreover, it is more funny to help your allies, especially during invasions. It is very good feeling seeing an invasion failed thanks to your helping hand.

    That's probably one of the reasons why it's better to play the short campaign and just take your time.

    that's what i do too. but it is hard to keep playing after you once
    reached your goals. thats why i would like to have some other
    extraordinary winning conditions but this is another topic.

    I always just completely ignore the win conditions. To me, I have won when it becomes apparent that I will eventually win, which is usually when I lose interest and start a new campaign.

    Once I am allied to another faction, I wont break my alliance with it. If I need more settlements to reach my goals I will go crush someone else , but I wont betray my allies.

    What if you're allied with everyone that's left on the map?

    I would like to see vicory conditions for the long campaign changed into something like eliminate the evil factions *list* and conquer certain territorys but no requirement to conquer more than 15 (elves for example) 25 (gondor) settlements or so.

    AI quickly goes bankrupt beacuse of huge army stacks he make even at peace, so just wait for AI to end up bankrupt and you can buy any settlement for 90 000+, some even go for 40 000, also note that AI automatically shift capital to the center so if you need to buy their capital buy settlements on one side and he will move it.

    Break all alliances first round of the game, then you can conquer all you want =D.

    I love breaking alliances

    first I put some armies at their borders, then break alliance and just steamroll over them

    Just march right in to their citys then betray them. Your rep goes to anyways.

    Playing as a good faction I complete set victory conditions and then (if I feel up to it) I help other factions obtain their victory condition territories as long as they don't conflict with the ones I need.

    Playing as an evil faction...lol I usually run the map

    I alway's attack Dale as Dwarves because I need more cities/gold and Dale is just an easy enemy to kill but if I didn't need the cities I would kept my alliances.

    If you dont want to attack them.....just buy their cities, that is easy enough^^

    Playing as HE I bought all towns from eriador (except three that they did not want to sell) then I marched into their lands and attacked the remaining towns (after breaking my alliance with them), and voila....Eriador was crushed in 1 turn

    And what's the benefit of that tactic?
