Default Sarah Palin hands over power in Alaska

    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo...0,970489.story
Reporting from Fairbanks, Alaska -- As thousands of cheering supporters vowed to keep her feisty, down-home political legacy alive, Sarah Palin stepped down as Alaska governor Sunday, pledging to continue fighting for independence from Washington and for Americans' personal freedoms "as that grizzly guards her cubs."

The hand-over to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell at a family-style picnic marked an unexpected end to a brief but remarkable governorship in which the 45-year-old hockey mom turned the Republican Party on its head and propelled Alaska's frontier-style, moose-meat-picnic politics into the national dialogue.Palin -- who famously described herself as a "pit bull with lipstick" last year, when she accepted the Republican vice presidential nomination -- took the opportunity Sunday to fire a last official grenade at the media, which she has blamed for distorting her statements and fueling controversies that have surrounded her.

"You represent what could and should be a respected and honest profession, that could and should be a cornerstone of our democracy," she said. "Democracy depends on you, and that is why our troops are willing to die for you. So how about in honor of the American soldier you quit making things up?"

Those sentiments drew the loudest applause of her speech.

She added: "Our new governor has a very nice family too, so leave his kids alone."

After her addition to the national ticket, Palin endured frequent bad publicity about her family, including her unwed teenage daughter Bristol's pregnancy and Bristol's breakup with the baby's father.

Palin has declined to say what she plans to do next -- other than write a book and make public appearances, beginning Aug. 8 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library near Simi Valley. She has not ruled out a bid for the presidency in 2012.
God I hate this woman. PLEASE for the love of God and country do not run for the Presidency Sarah! And please GOP, do NOT nominate Palin as our candidate for president. Any thoughts on what Palin's next move could be?

I think it would be wonderfuly entertaining if Palin ran again. All the jokes from her short time in the spot light last time were wonderful. Now weather it would be good for the Repulicans is debatable, but they certanly can't do much worse than they are now.

Let me put this another way, if the GOP nominates Palin, I'm becoming an independent.

Lets be honest. It's Alaska. How much power could it possibly be?

I'm happy she left Alaska to a more capable Governor, what I'm worried about is her winning the GOP nomination for president!
If there REALLY is nobody else than Palin, which would be sad, but if thats the case since many republicans can't drop the "obama iz forin!" issue just make an amendment so Arnold can run. He has more "star power" than Palin and is actually well liked by many.
The "religious right" is crazy and could have enough votes to nominate her. They also turn off moderate independents from voting Republican.

"Fifty-three percent of Americans view Palin negatively, and 40 percent see her positively, according to the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll."

"Worse for Palin, 4 in 10 Republicans don't think she understands complex issues, the poll found."

    Source

If she actually manages to win the nomination, Republicans deserve her.

She was the only one who kept Russia from launching an invasion.

Which, provided that the above figure is representative, would still be a minority.

I'll eat my PS3 if Palin is ever nominated by the GOP, that would really be the best way to make people stop taking them seriously.

Then I'll become a Constitutionalist. Or a Whig...

Damn, now I have an incentive to let her win.
I would join the whigs, they have a much cuter mascot.

I didnt support Romney in 2008, but he would decimate Obama, hes an economic Guru, can fight dirty & can speak without a teleprompter.

    Exactly what I was thinking....

using CNN as a polling site is completely unreliable, go to www.realclearpolitics.com or www.politico.com to get credible pole numbers.

    lol

If she wins the nomination i would be surprised, SO many better republicans than her and it would guarantee their loss unless Obama becomes less popular than Bush at his lowest.

She's gonna hit the speech circuit (yes people will pay to hear her speak, i know, tell me about it), earn a couple of mill, then bring out a up to date biography (i was gonna say autobiography but thought better of it), earn some more moolah, and then its position for candidacy. The republican party should expect her come 2010.

Does this include snow or is only fluid water useful?

Mitt Romeny polls even with Obama right now, Palin is 6 points below that and since currently Obama is below 50% approval thats not good.

Her time as anything but a cameo should be done.

Still while we sit here whining, ing, theorizing, gloating about politics, she did become governor of a state and ran for VP. Sure it was Alaska but most of us couldn't get elected to the local library board. Not bad for a non-political background.

I will say this about Alaska from my experiences there, no offense to those from Alaska by the way. Most of the population seemed to be uneducated male laborers who know little to nothing about politics nor do they care to know since it rarely effects their state or their daily lives. Really Palin being a young good looking woman was all that got her elected there. Honestly if you've got a little T & A then you could probably get yourself elected, hell they'd probably vote for Britney Spears or Lindsay Lohan.

    Does that count?
