    Default Sherlock Holmes (2009)

Anyone else think it looks good?

I'm sure this rapes the character and spirit of Doyle's character, but since I haven't read the book I'm looking forward to it.

Seems like a fun movie with plenty of action and a good enough story, similar to Iron Man (which was my favorite summer movie last year, screw TDK).

If The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen can turn Holmes into a secret agent, I don't see anything wrong with him being a gay action hero in a non-slash film. Seriously.

I wish the movie didn't try so hard to have modern-style action. I mean, giant fireball explosions and Sherlock jumping headfirst out of a tall building? Sure it might plausible but not very believable for the time period.

Other than that it looks really good.

1 - Sherlock Holmes never existed

2 - Doyle describes him as asexual.

Largely, but he once had a sort of romance in one book, and kept on having affection for ladies in other books

OT: the movie seems more like 007 in the 19th century than the authentic atmosphere of the books

True, with Irene Adler in A Scandal in Bohemia.

Given he's been treated as a secret agent in other media, I have no problem with this.

Looks very good the movie, good caraters, humor, action. But a good story I doubt that it's there.

That wasn't love though, was it? It was more along the lines of respect.

That being said, I love Conan Doyle's stories. And I can't wait to see this movie. I think I read somewhere that this was based off some comic book, or it was made to look comic-bookish, but I'm not exactly sure.

But I must add that Vasily Livanov was by far the greatest Holmes ever. Ever. Same with Vitaly Solomin as Watson

I liked how Jeremy Brett portrayed him, before he became all messed up and bloated (in the later seasons). After a while Brett just looked too unhealthy.

Seconded. Or, after vian_the _terrible, thirded. Absolutely amazing series. And The Hound of the Baskervilles adaptation, as much as I don't like Sir Henry's portrayal, is a jewel.
