I dont speak german!!

i dont know if this is a bug or a feature or some sort of screw up on my part. all my drop down boxes when i move the mouse over them are in german, the quotes are in german, and my faction announcements have german in them. not the description of whats going on, just the title. and i dont speak german! everything else is in english. buildings units resourses etc.

No its a feature. SS6 automatically detects what language you should learn next and starts phasing out your native language to motivate you.

Is it possible that you installed the language bugfix for the german versions of mtw2 by accident? (spoilered)

what?! video games cant be educational! it goes against the primary purpose of gaming... to turn your brain to mush. i havent installed the bug fix. i downloaded the torrent and installed the patch that was included. my vanilla works same as always, no german there. havent patched my game. i just installed the text overhaul mod and it fixed everything but the quotes... so at least i know whats happening until i get the rest of this figured out.

P.S. Huene isnt my nick, its my last name. lol. its from a bunch of baltic nobles who were in the knighthood and their decendants came to canada at some point. and then i came along! i would post a link but i doubt anyone is interested in my family history

Two ideas:
- Try deleting the events.dat and event.idx files in Stainless_Steel_6/data/sounds. They should be rebuild by the game, maybe it'll help.
- Try installing using the http mirrors instead of the torrent download - can't remember if I verified both of them (or any) before adding them to the alternate mirror list in the 6.1 topic

@nick I assumed something like that but couldn't resist mentioning. A topic by a german sounding nick titled "I can't speak german"...

If you're playing 5.0 you must download the 5.1 and hotfix. If it's in 6.1 maybe you just have a crap installer ^^;

There are no torrents for SS5 or SS4 around thats why I assumed (correctly? - he didnt correct me on that) that he has issues with SS6.1

:o wow thats interesting. So how do you switch the language then? I would actually like to switch to German, I need to practice it hah. Also, is it just for this particular mod?

As I said this feature works automatically - if it doesnt switch for you this means you dont need to practice your German

Might start up Chinese next time you play.

ok so i deleted everything and reinstalled 6.0 and it still did it in german. so then i reinstalled 6.1

Do you have Vista? If so, do you have UAC turned off? When you reinstalled, did you delete all the old M2TW and SS stuff in AppData?

yes and yes. and i still have the same problem. checked the error log and theres nothing. i installed the expanded text submod and that cleared up some of the problem, so i am hoping that overwriting everything in the text file with finish the rest of it

Can you download again the SS 6.1 from the links provided in this site? And remove Medieval totally from the pc (keep the saved games if you wish), reboot the pc make sure that you haven't German as a selected alternate language in your OS, and do a clean install.

ive already done that. i have downloaded from each of the sites. totally wiped SS each time, and reinstalled and the german is back. so then i got pretty pissed off and in a fit of rage uninstalled m2tw. still didnt work when i reinstalled everything
