    Default Your best battle?

So, just had amazing fight with me playing as Byzantium and defending from Hungary attack at Constantinople.

So i had about 1000 men and my enemy had about 2000 men, so i wass outnumbered to 1:2.
I placed stakes at my gates, and retreated to city square (or what is it?). So almost every hungary genral, expect one died at the stakes.
Their morale was very low and my archers shooting them with firearrows didnt make it any better.
So i used my infantry to make shieldwall and hold their troops. After that i took my cavalry to their back and charged. Almost 1200 men routed in 30 seconds when i made my generals cavalry push them from other side. Butchering almost all of them in 2 minutes was glorius, but after that victory, they are still trying to take Constantinople but only with 1 stack.

Thats a nice victory!!! Lots of kills and captures.

Some of my best victories and favorite battles are fought in the early campaign, with my generals bodygaurd, just as the game is starting, and spearmen have no armor. I love charging with bodygaurds and see the enemy flying in the air from the impact.

Most all of my great victories have my generals bodygaurd playing key parts in the battle. Their manuverabilty, attack, defense, and charge bonus make them the best units in the early game.

I've only had a few Heroic victories so far, they seem more difficult to get now than with RTW but the one which I still feel was best was first time ever playing MTW2 and it was this mod early campaign turn 1 as Genoa to siege Milan in 6.1 and have the defenders sally and some wandering rebel stack attack in the rear- the rebels sallying had 3 more units plus the 5 units in the rear vastly outnumbers my army, luckily the position my general was in tempted the AI to rush the city general after and some spearmen the AI general barely brushed by killed that general(spearmen only killed 1 guy, the general in brief contact- then crossbow militia took out the general of the reinforcements about 2 minutes later just luckily.

Took Milan with less than 50 casaulties before turn 2. I replayed it a couple turns later when I realized Florence was so close and I'd sent my army to Mareilles and only had end turn 1 save I thought it would be easy to win... lol after fighting the battle 5 times I finally got a good enough clear victory I let it rest, but damn... getting some lucky kills on generals certainly makes heroic victories easier.

The easiest Heroic victory with the least effort on my part and also the very first battle I played in MTW2 make it the best. Plus it led me to underestimate the difficulty in winning outnumbered battles with inferior units for half a campaign.

Lol, I replay a lot of battles too. Some may see this as cheating, but it helps the player learn better battlefield tactics. Most lopsided battles in this game can be won if the right tactics are used. Once you get better, you will lose less men and win more and more heroic victories. In MTW2 I save the game before every battle that I fight or will need to fight.

With generals bodygaurds, it is best to use them in pairs because they dont have many men. I try to charge with them and flank with them as much as possible. In the heroic victories that I fight, I am usually outnumbered so I have to use all my forces as best as I can. My main strategy for MTW2 is to pin the enemy in place with my infantry, and then wheel round behind them with calvary or whatever I can spare.

I trie allways get to highest place on the battlemap and so my enemy gets tired and their morale goes down and few firearrows and bodyguard charges will do the work

in early era campaigns when most of the units between faction have very similar stats I think it is difficult to get many heroic victories unless you load up on family members to get shock cavalry effect. In RTW as long as you were slightly outnumbered you could get heroic victory but in MTW2 it seems you have to be vastly outnumbered. In sieges its much easier but there is no strategic map reminder of the glorious victory and also the AI is extra stupid in sieges.

Open fields battles though I have harder time getting heroic victories on H and VH where in RTW there was hardly any difference once you knew the right tactics, just the enemy fought a bit longer before morale broke. Now with MTW2 good cavalry is more difficult to get in early campaigns unless you put all your family members in one army which I think is sorta exploit and the longer battles mean disparity in numbers starts to tell before tactics can break enough enemy units.

For fun i made a Fatimid army of about 3500 peasants and invaded Antioch against the Templars. They had a ton of Chivalric Knights and Crusader Knights.

    The slaughter commenced.

    End of Battle Report

    3200 deaths
    73 kills

    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.........

(VH/VH) the morale killed me. my massive horde charged the gate, and they saw these metal demons guarding the city and ran and ran and ran.

    A worthy sacrifice indeed!!!

If you speed up the recruitment timer for peseants in castles, and gave them some leather armour, I wonder how far you could get in a campaign using only peasents and your family member generals?

you'd probably be ok until about 1120 or so. After that, when militia sergeants and crossbows are available ur pretty much screwed.

What is the highest attack defense a peasant unit can reach? I have one with 7 experience but only leather armor which has 3 attack and 3 defense. Not great defense but the higher numbers in a peasants unit help offset that plus so cheap you can have 2 full stack armies where normally 1 normal army only is affordable.

Largest problem is peasants are very hard to control in battles. Good mass can stop a cavalry charge but as the game progress you'd have to have 2-3 full armies to beat half armies of enemy.
