    Default Tweaked Fountain Guards (FG balance/usability)

    When i play as Mordor i feel i got Olog hai to look forward to with harad its the mumakills Rhun the Loke. When i play as gondor thou i dont feel that way anymore i know that even if i reach late game The units im gonna get its not gonna be half as cool as Olog hai or Mumakills.

    Swan knights and Fountain guards are so rare that even when you get them they dont make up for much i mean sure they do a little better then your other units say the Citadel guard.

    I made an improved Fountain Guard that is the best unit Man has to offer now. The pride of Gondor is now actually something to be proud of take a look Best part is that you get one of these babies when you start up campaign.


    Quiz.
    How Does this interfer with balance? accept for making it slightly easier to assume control of osgiliath at the start nothing.

    Wow ill make of nothing but Fountain guard. No you wont their scarce and expensive their just there to give a little more feel to gondor and give them at least one Uber unit. Mordor will make like 4-8 trolls for every fountain guard you can make, They now kill trolls effectivly thou.

    So you basically made fountain guards over powered? Nifty.

    Remember- They have the spearwall ability! You basically created spartans on steroids.

    Just have a look at RR/RC ! There every unit is perfectly balanced and the unit stats really fit to the models and descriptions of the units!

    Those Foundain Guard units with 20 defence and 15 attack..they are Damn Good!

    And they are spear units and spearmens dont need so much attack.. and those units have very good attack......Hmmm...Hard to say.. But of course if they are elite units who have to fight against such a power and olog-hais..they could be always little bit better. But now I say that they are just fine!

    1. It's too late to make unit suggestions (not that they were ever needed) for a patch coming out in less than a week.

    2. This isn't really a unit suggestion but a "rebalancing" one.

    3. What do you expect from this? If you like FGs that way then just play with them. If you're expecting those changes to become "official" you're in for one hell of a wait.

    In any case I've renamed the thread into something less confusing.

    WTF you have nearly doubled there defense and attack why whats the point of one super power unit why are they so much better than any other unit of gondor i know there elites but still doesnt justify that huge a jump .

    If your intention was to give gondor a late game advantage and therefore turn a hard interesting campaign into a easy boring one well in that you will have succeded

    unless of course to keep some form of balance you have made them AOR and given them a tiny tiny recruitment pool so it take a huge amount of turns to get one and can only store 1 in the recruitment to keep some sort of balance but turn it into as boring as bat !!! you have to balance whole factions or even all the factions what the hell does changing one units states do specially such a radical change

    IMO this would only weaken Gondor, once FG's are available they would sometimes buy a unit, but when they cost 2000 florins a units they would never be able to buy a unit.

    I mean whats supposed to beat Fountain Guards? with regular FG 2 groups of Orc bands destroy them. assuming they dont run away. either way i think thats wrong. They are buffed but hey i would not have it any other way.

    Fountain Guard has great design whoever made the Fountain guard ++ rep if i knew.
    Stats thou makes them feel like any other vanilla unit Theese stats makes them Real FG. They come at a increased price so it dosn't affect balance. if nobody noticed they now Fightens enemy infantry aswell.

    Jean-A-Luc yes i hoped it would be in the next patch if not ill just add it myself but i wanted to share how i feel isn't that the point of a forum in the first place?

    im having mad fun using this unit both ways, When im mordor and i see a FG i finaly feel like gondor has something for me to slightly fear and it feels damn good. as Gondor i put them in the army thats gonna challange the stack with 4 groups of olog hais in them and it now feels like i have an ace when they rush me and pound my line.

    im telling you this unit rebalancing whatever is actually more needed then it is not for gameplay value that is ofc my opinion.

    well,I like the trait "frighten nearby enemy infantry" you've added,but 2 hp doesn't make sence IMHO. Even Elves don't have several hp; but otherwise new stats are fine

    I did a few tests and the old FG's suck! They can't even defeat a unit of Goblin Infantry, and their spearwall isn't much good either, they will stand up and don't hold the line, in that case I like the new ones better.

    Gondor Militia =/= Fountain guard

    I assume that you are talking about the militia, because Fg own almost everything with enough care.

    i was going to say wow yeah how can you not defeat most things with the original FG i take down most units with the original FG perhaps not olag hai but then there not ment to take them down sorry there just men well trained yes well armoured yes but men just the same they dont stand against olag hai need more of them and tactics for such things and well an ability to play the game to helps

    Remember it is based on tolkiens world try to keep units in the spirit of tolkien and so 2 hp which was another thing i never noticed is always a bad idea except for a general unit or in TATW case units that would have an obvious health advantage eg trolls murmakil nazgul etc not a unit of men even elite men bad bad idea but thats just IMHO

    Exacly el cid thats why i remade them. They look so cool and yet they suck so bad that dont make sense to me.

    Beregond the reason i gave them 2hp is because they cost so much and they needed to be able to withstand hordes of orcs. now they do. you need Uruks and olog hai to kill them. or you can mass 5 orc bands on them but in a choke hold they will still win.

    its a great fun unit now. all ready gave KK + rep he hates me thou. he sends me hate mail.
