    No.

Theres 2 files dealing with loading screen quotes.

1st is the quotes.txt, it has authors and quotes in it. it can be found in data/text

2nd is descr_transistion_screen. There you list every author and the quote that belongs to him. It can be found in the data folder.

Just look through it, it's actually quite self explaining.

I'm trying to edit quotes for a mod I'm playing (Third Age: Total War). Given that this thread wasn't very informative, I've tried editing the text file and when I save it afterward it crashes the game when ever a load screen would come up. However, this only seems to happen if I delete strings (there are 128 author and quote strings). Is there no way to lessen or add quote strings without to have the game to crash?

Also the convert .bin file does nothing (yes, it is in the mods/Third_Age/data/text folder).

The converter only works if you have python installed v2.6 32-bit version.
The .bin files are re-generated only when if the corresponding .txt file is not corrupt.

I'm on a 64-bit version of Win 7 though. And what would make the .txt file become corrupt exactly? I mean, I can edit existing line parameters and the game won't crash then. I just want to know why the game crashes when I delete author and quote lines and how do I do so without corrupting the file?

All 32-bit programs are compatible with 64bit os & for in the text file you have to change the things outside curly braces {} you change a quote and then change the author's name for it.

If this is the case then why doesn't the converter work?

And changing the quotes isn't the issue. Removing or adding quotes is. If I remove or add a new string for author and quote, the game crashes when ever a load screen should come up.

Don't know bro what's wrong with your setup but i have windows 7 and i use a dozen of 32 bit programs without any problems for example right now i'm using Google chrome(32 bit program) on my win7-64 bit OS.

Again its very simple don't know where the problem is.
For adding new quotes you need 2 files descr_transition_screen.txt & quotes.txt and that's it.
Say in the descr_transition file_screen.txt you add:-
    Code:
    	quote "Quote_101"
    	quoted "Author_101"
Then go in the quotes.txt file in the data\text folder and put:-
    Code:
    {Author_101}XYYZ
    {Quote_101}blah blah!
There is also one lookup file(descr_quotes_lookup.txt) for it but i think all lookup files are just RTW leftovers and not used by game.

Python 2.5 or 2.6 32bit works on 64 bit systems as mine proves. It's the the program required by the other program and it's not dependent on the operating system.

Sometimes the string.bin has a mind of its own. Move it to your desktop so the game can't and see if it will generate a new one with your quotes.

Given you are actually trying to edit the mods files it should be in the config file already, but is file_first=true in the config file?

As a note you are likely, as in with 100% probability, doing something wrong because quotes have been edited in vanilla, expansions and mods all the way back to RTW.

You are not getting the point for putting a new quote you need descr_transition_screen.txt in your third age's data folder and like you said that file is not there meaning that they haven't added new quotes only edited the existing ones, so download this and run the all text files bat file it will extract all the text files in your game from vanilla then copy paste the transition file into your data folder of your third age and then put the new quote.

The only config files I could find for the Third Age mod were a battle_config file and a config_ai_battle file.

I ran the "extract all text files" .bat but where exactly are they being extracted to?
