    Default Hyboria TW

    Hello to all,

I've been lurking the forums for about a year now, and I've decided since other modding projects are done, it's time to start a new one with my favorite game.

I've long been a huge fan of Conan, and the Hyborian era. I think this would be a perfect mix. I'm still in the planning and research stage, however, I have started a few models and animations just to see if they would work with the engine.

What I plan is complete trees for the nations/factions of Hiboria, a full campaign, and custom battles. This I realize, is a enormous project. I truly hope to find some help along the way. I am a modeller, texturer, animator and will do various 2d work as well.

I really could use a coder, as I don't dabble in the black arts myself, and various others to help out. If you are a fan of Conan, I hope to bring you something that brings Robert Howard's work to life with mass battles.

Anyone interested in helping out, please PM me or email me at wereturnip@live.com.

It sounds like a good idea, and so far as I know no one else has done it. So good luck.

I do feel it necessary to point out that it is spelled Hyborian though.

Welcome to TWC, wereturnip (which is a hilarious name, BTW). I think a Hyborian Age mod would be a great idea.

There already is a Conan: Total War being made.

Granted, that one's for Medieval II and you're pitching this one in the RTW section, so I think there's more than enough difference for both to exist.

    Anyway, good luck.

At least rename the topic Hyborian Total War, not Hiborian

Can't wait to play a good Conan-based videogame, at last! And a TW!

Thanks for the links Spartan198, the units look very nice (Barbarians!) + Med2 is way better for this world IMO.
I wonder why there's no sign of this mod in the TWC Med2 modding section. Couldn't find it.

EDIT: wereturnip = that's excellent! one of the coolest avatars/usernames I've encountered.

Saw the previews = TURAN RULE! Beware the Mighty Shah Yezdigerd the Cruel!
    No progression thread/indicators too bad.

It's in the Cemetery. Taranaich never updated the forum here very often, instead concentrating his efforts on the one at the .Org, so The Hyborian Age: Total War (as it was then called) was moved to the Cemetery.

As a huge Conan fan, I've been following this mod for some time and even bought Medieval II specifically for it.

Yes you're right about the spelling...Not sure how that one slipped by.

I wasn't aware of one being made either. I think I'm going ahead with it though, as it will give Rome die hards their version.

Thanks to all for the welcomes, comments and advice. I hope to have some things to showcase after this weekend.

I've been to the forums of Taranaich, very good stuff he's doing, I plan on emailing him very soon. I've adjusted alot of the things that we had similar so as not to "mimic" his great work, while still keeping true to the Hybornian Era. Honestly, I'd really enjoy some collaboration. I am not a fan of MTW2, for reasons that may seem idiotic to others, but I believe everyone has their favorite.

@ the Wereturnip...I've never had any problem seeing if the name was already taken

I think it would be great to have a Conan mod for RTW, especially since Tarahaich's mod, though it looks very good, is progressing very slowly. How much modding experience do you have, wereturnip? Also, can you show us some of your work? It would greatly increase interest in this mod and might attract other talented modders to the cause.

I'm really sorry about the lack of updates and news, there was some very unfornate RL issues.. But, I'm here, and have made some headway. I didn't know where to start the actual mod, after all the research and transforming it into something that the engine will run. So I decided on alphabetical order.

Asgard would be the first playable faction, here's the "hearthguard" similar to peasants, but as the Asgardians are such a war based culture they are better armoured and more disciplined. And Asgardian infantry, a swordsmen, that is the backbone of the army. These are basic model reworks and a reskins, but I'm currently working on others that are my own models, and animations.

I will show these as soon as they are done. I'm creating a forums site with all the details of everything, I believe in keeping the community informed everystep of the way.

I hope to get a sponsered site on here. But this is where I can put things up without taking up space from the TW forums. I will link this as soon as I think it's ready.

@Beren Erchamion, this is my first time modding any TW game, however, I've been modding Dawn of War for about 5 years. http://z13.invisionfree.com/DOW_IGBIA_mod/index.php Here's a site from a project of DoW that I've been doing, granted there's no animations, however the models and textures are mine. And thank you, I really could use some help, I've just recently realised how big of a project I'm taking on LOL.

Looking good. Did you create the horned helmet?

Thank you, actually I just modified the old helmet, extracting the polygons and forming them into horns, then adding the textures.

It turned out well. The studded tunic looks very good too.

Looking good to me, too. Perhaps the sword could have some more detail, but this is a minor thing.

I wish you the best of luck. I am also eager to play in the Hyborian Age.
