How I cheated battle CTD in 1.3.1 hotfix
Alright folks,
Sound seems to be a problem from battle to campaign transition. Right before you get to the end of the battle but before "Continue/Victory" prompt you have to untick Master sound option.
We all know that hot fix in 1.3.1 actually brought in bunch of hot CTDs with it. I never had them before that. My particular case was CTD in the battles, most in the very end. I have read a lot of different tips and tricks, so I will share what works for me in hope it will work for you too until next set of hot CTDs arrives in 1.4.
First my set-up:
Spectre x32BV-Full HD //
GA-EP45-UD3P F10b //
C2D E8400 stock //
Buffalo Micron D9 DDR2 4x1Gb //
HD4890 1GB 9.6 Cat //
Intel Pro 1000PT PCIe //
Creative X-Fi SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_18_0013 //
OCZ Vertex 2x32Gb //
WD1001FALS //
TRUE-120 //
Antec Quattro 850W //
WinXP SP3 32bit
Results:
1. I'm on turn 102 with TROM mod.
2. Did complete fresh OS reinstall
3. 3 land battles back to back in one turn - no CTD
4. 1 land battle, 1 naval battle next turn - no CTD
5. CTD in third turn when I didn't untick in time the Master Sound option, and right after I won it but before it asks me to finish or continue total annihilation.
Other things I'm following to avoid CTDs as much as possible:
1. /3GB boot.ini hack http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=238484
2. Steam is in on-line mode (crashed more often in off-line)
3. Graphics settings all on high, depth of field off, v-sync on, AAx2, AFx8
4. Nothing overclocked
5. When I get to "Continue/Victory" prompt at the of battle I wait 5 sec before pressing OK
6. When I get to battle stats screen at the of battle I wait 5 sec before pressing OK
7. Before hitting end of turn - I make sure no units or cities selected (had sometimes CTDs)
EDIT: Attached my preferences file and DXDiag for those who care:

Re: How I cheated battle CTD in 1.3.1 hotfix
BTW, I have also fixed CTD upon starting the battle.
EDIT: Also check that vanilla ETW without mods does not crash - you might be experiencing mod related CTDs.
@mods, sorry for bumping but things get lost quickly and this might help someone.

Re: How I cheated battle CTD in 1.3.1 hotfix
Well I was experiencing random CTDs every 1-3 hours with every patch since release. After reading and trying every possible solution I finally found settings that fixed all crashes for me.
Sound:
- reduce sound acceleration by 1 step (3 of 4). (dxdiag -> sound or via control panel)
Graphics: all ultra except
- SOAA OFF
- depth of field OFF
- volumetric effects OFF
Didn't make any difference for me:
- /3GB boot.ini hack
- STEAM Offline Mode - I only play in offline-mode. Online/offline doesn't make any difference for me in terms of stability.
