    Default Effects of Schools

I know that sending a new family member to a settlement with a school will help with traits, but does it have the same effect on other characters? Like Merchants or Priests? Can I just drop a general into said school/settlement for a few turns and receive any benefits?
And what about other "buildings of learning" like universities? Do they have an effect on character development?

When a general comes of age (not adopted) then they gain good traits if you sit them in a settlement whilst they are learning (ages 15-18). Put administrative generals in towns and military generals into castles.
While the general is growing up you can see the learning trait change from junior-senior-graduate, etc when they are then finished and gain no effect from school/uni.

The military minded ones get basic military education - standard - advanced.
The administrative minded ones get traits ending in batcholer of arts (can't remember the rest)

AFAIK the buildings do nothing for mechants and priests (you need guilds for them).

Will just putting a merchant in a city with a guild increase his chance to receive any benefits?

I think you have to have the merchant guild in the city when you recruit the merchant, unless you have the top major guild then it applies to every mechant created in any town. I would have to confirm that though.
Don't think just moving an existing merchant into a city with the mechant guild improves traits, not 100% certain though.

Yes, I realize merchants created in a city with Merchant's Guild have a good chance of better levels ( Better "Mojo" as I like to think of it).
I was just wondering if Schools, Guilds and/or universities have any effect on existing characters that are present in the city.

Schools (including universities and libraries) Will also give ancilliaries to generals in the settlement (even if they are over 18). It will also help them gain Intelligence, Sane, and some other nice traits.
