Medieval 2 Gold Question

I am currently playing Kingdoms, downloaded off of Steam. I want to get a hard-copy version of the game and saw that there is a Gold pack of the game that includes the original game plus Kingdoms.

Does anybody know if this retail version is patched up to 1.05?

It is not - it is released as 1.4. But there is a patch out there that will patch it to 1.5.

Does the 1.05 patch contain any really big fixes or anything that would significantly affect gameplay? If so, I will probably have to download the patch and put it on a CD to keep with the game. If not, I may not ever worry about it.

Yes the 1.5 patch does address some significant problems with the original Kingdoms release. For example the Kalmar Union event in the Teutonic Campaign doesn't work properly without the patch and some basic upkeep in the Britannia Campaign isn't calculated correctly. There are some problems in the Crusades Campaign as well IIRC. Just as a general rule always download and save all relevant patches just in case.
