    Default Map errors?

I'm currently playing a BtR campaign and have found, what I consider to be, some map errors. The most notable being this one:

If this type of thing is known then that's fine but I don't see why an army should not be able to march down this valley (obviously in-game there is a river in the way but I mean in real life). All the surrounding terrain is designed to give an army marching through this valley a back door to Casarea, yet they can't get through here.

I feel it is a shame to waste such cunningly designed terrain. There are similar instances all over Asia Minor, if someone would like me to point them out I would be happy to do so.

    EDIT:
Here's some others in Asia Minor:

I recently played Byzantium and frankly I liked that map feature myself. It allowed me to take out Iconium and Ceasarea without fear of the Turks reinforcing from their other holdings without first going through either the Armenians or Georgians via Trebizond. As to wether or not its logical or geographically accurate, I'm indfifferent.

As for the 2nd one you show my guess would be it was purposely designed that way. It basically bottlenecks Armenia into going through Iconium if they want to take Attalia. That or an amphibious assault.

If I had to guess both are devices to force an Armenia AI to take on Levant instead of Turkey. Can you imagine if those bottlenecks were taken out and your playing a Western European power. Suddenly come turn 100+ Armenia is all over Turkey like white on rice vs. Levant.

    Fair point, well put

My only issue with it is that the terrain is designed for those passes to be there, so, when I was unfamiliar with the terrain, I marched armies up them only to find it was a dead end

Btw, in your Byz campaign, is everyone nearby really weak? Or is it intended that way?
I have fortress level units while KoJ and Turks are fighting with militias...obviously Armenia is weak anyway

IMO it gives a dose of realism - you don't know where you will be able to pass when you are on unknown terrain, so send a spy/priest/diplomat forward.

I'm about 1300 AD and I'm having hard times figthing Egypt (damn the Royal Mamluks) but I had no problem to wipe out Venetia, Turkey and Georgia. Militia Christe had some feudal units but they wasn't a real threat.

Unfortunately, only way to fight against elite units is to fight hording factions.

If you want real hard fights just wait for mongols to come.

    Its really a time issue.

KoJ is just plain weak early game. They only get tough if they are alive and start cranking out fortress level units. Which is just hard for a AI KoJ faction since they are constantly under pressure/Jihad, usually.

    Agree.

I gave up that Byzantium campaign out of boredom.

Did the map get altered greatly for DLV or are the territories based on the vanilla map?
