    Yes they were in history , in the game they are under one banner but if you put your cursor on them you will see that they have different nations within

    If you look in the M2 files you find a list of all the rebel 'subdivisions'. In descr_regions, for example, you will find this.
    Code:
    North_America
        Miccosukee
        aztecs
        Native_Rebels
        212 198 206
        tobacco, coal, america, no_pirates, no_brigands
        5
        3
        religions { catholic 0 orthodox 0 islam 0 pagan 100 heretic 0 }
    Inverness_Province
        Inverness
        scotland
        English_Rebels
        20 25 225
        atlantic, explorers_guild
        5
        2
        religions { catholic 90 orthodox 0 islam 0 pagan 5 heretic 5 }
    Oslo_Province
        Oslo
        denmark
        Norse_Rebels
        255 180 190
        fish, furs, timber, iron, amber, atlantic, explorers_guild
        5
        3
        religions { catholic 80 orthodox 3 islam 0 pagan 15 heretic 2 }
    Stockholm_Province
        Stockholm
        denmark
        Norse_Rebels
        252 245 42
        silver, furs, timber, iron, slaves, amber
        5
        3
        religions { catholic 75 orthodox 8 islam 0 pagan 15 heretic 2 }
    And so on. There are other files that determine this as well.
    In TW games the engines cannot handle hundreds of mini factions (until perhaps ETW- what is it, over thirty?) so the developers lumped every small state into generic rebels.

    Once, less than 10 turns after I began the game, I had a rebel stack staffed with Armoured Swordsmen and English Knights (I'm playing England).

    How they managed to reach that level of technological prowess when the entire world is still grappling with the idea of non-pitchfork-weapons is beyond me.

    I have the same problem a lot. Brigands suddenly appear with chivalric knights in the year 1090. :/

    I think that non-scripted rebellions create random armies. Sometimes you'll get units with maxed out experience and armor, etc.

    It's possible to change the name of virtually everything! All you need do is edit the txt files in the Data folder (and the folders within that folder)... However, some things are cross referenced in other files... It's a big job! Remember to make back ups of everything first! Best of luck!

    The most certain test by which we judge whether a country is really free is the amount of security enjoyed by minorities.~John Acton, [1877].

    "...the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life; the sick, the needy and the handicapped. " ~ Hubert H. Humphrey
