    Default Maximize use of slots in EDU

    I have maxxed out the slots available in the EDU. I ran across this: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=209039 in the RTW forums. Is there a way that I haven't seen to open up the merc slots in the EDU and still have the recruitable for their factions and have them usable in the modelbd for battles?

    No, the "merc-trick" only helps to save models in the db, not units in EDU.

    When you have hit the max EDU there is no way than to actually remove units (starting with check if really all units are used by the game and with deleting unused and ships first). There is also a "reserve-merc-trick": a lot of units have two variations (at least in Vanilla, but also in many mods): the recruitable unit and the mercenary. You can skip the recruitable unit and make the merc recruitable in your towns instead. Downside would be that all factions would be using the same skin.

    Otherwise this would be the time to check if all units would be really needed, and also justify. For example, what would be the difference between town militia and spear militia? Did peasents really own crossbows? Can anyone load and shoot a crossbow from horseback? Do you really need dozends of different knight units in EDU when all European knights looked the same and there is the upgrade feature?

    Tip: also don't overlook the siege engine units since they all have the same stats yet some mods waste a lot of slots on them (well at least DLV does , they do have a different unit model during battle but like I said same stats).

    Things tp ponder. Can you make slave units recruitable by a faction under certain circumstances?

    The salve units work the same as any other units. You can give them ownership of the desired faction in EDU, assign a proper skin in modelsdb and make them recruitable in EDB.

    The eaysest way for "slave" units is to give them the mercenary attribute, declare the slave skin the merc skin in the db and give ownership "all" in EDU. That way you can use that unit for every faction (always with the merc/slave skin).

    Hmm, what do you mean by that since almost all units can be recruited by slave(rebels) and at least one more faction lets say (unless they are MERCENARY of course ):

    Slav Levies
    .
    .
    .
    ownership hungary, slave
    era 0 hungary
    era 1 hungary
    era 2 hungary

    Slaves get units from other factions when rebellion happens (since they are actually rebels) but they of course have some units like say Pilgrims that are counted as mercenaries (in most mods at least and can't be produced by a player from building) and can be recruited by a lot of factions,but you COULD make them recruitable from, lets say cities with abbeys or cathedrals while there is a crusade and you joined it. (Or did you ask something completely different, in that case I am sorry).

    Update:; And of course like konny said you would need to change skin info.

    these units have identical twins and so can be easily deleted without losing anything
