    Default Renaming Regiments

Is there a way to change what appears in the Custom unit name box when a unit is created?

    For Example:

I need it so when my unit is recruited its 'nickname' is not '1st Foot Guards' but 'My Unit Name'

    Is this posable?

    +rep for useful posts

    Cheers

To get that I think you would need to literally make 100 individual units of each type named by each nickname, so its impossible.

This is because each unit (ie. euro line infantry) is translated in-game to, for example, Line Infantry, "X" Regiment of Foot. It isnt possible to re-code the db file so that each translation is different, so unless you made thousands of new units (and recruit them individually) its impossible.

You could make a load more units with specific regiment names, for example the Coldstream Guards or Black Watch, and make more of these unique units such as the 33rd Havercakes, 48th Highlanders, Grenadier Guards etc, but such a mod would be big and take a lot of work.

    Hope this helps.

It's also wrong. The localisation file has every possible unit name in it. It just so happens that it's sequentially ordered, and the individual units reference that particular entry. If it's already taken, they take the next available one. So, in the localisation you actually have

    1st Regiment of Foot
    2nd Regiment of Foot
    3rd Regiment of Foot
    And so on...

So if you create a regiment of foot, it looks at the list to see which is the earliest untaken name and uses it. Now, the list does stop after a while, at which point more regiments will just be "Regiment of Foot," but I don't know anything about the mechanisms by which it happens. I just know that the localisation file has Regiment of Foot over and over until about the hundredth or so.

I leave this with the caveat that I could be wholly wrong, but if so then I am dumbfounded as to why the localisation file is the way it is.
