Icon14 Diadochi: Total War Text Proofing

As far as I know, most mods for ANY game will probably
include some mistakes in grammar, spelling, etc, and DTW
    is no exception.

Thus, I(and other people, I hope!) will undertake this task.
That of going over the many text files associated with Diadochi:
    Total war.

I'll start with the export_units for 1.06, and will edit this
post with an attachment of a corrected version of said file.

Feel free to let me know if you guys want a certain file to go over.

Export buildings and export units are quite neglected and would need some 'fixing' and 'populating'. If you could be so kind to do that work, we would be very happy to receive!

Sure thing. I'm partially done w/ the export_units, but a few things are bothering me.

1: Some units need completely new descriptions, like Polybian Princeps.
For the unit mentioned, they actually have the old Archer Auxillia descr.
2: I'm done spell checking, but I'm not sure it's right as far as US English vs British English,
as there are variations on spelling in between the two.

In any case, if I send in said file, and you don't like something, feel free to change it,
just give me pointers for the next time and let me know what you fixed.

EDIT: I actually finished the export_units and export_buildings a couple of minutes ago.

    Here they are.

Also, keep in mind this is very much a WIP. So, help would be appreciated.

When I said 'populating', I kind of meant that quite a few units and buildings have unfinished place-holder descriptions.

Edit: I made some changes on the files. Here's the 'latest' version

    Seriously? Some descriptions are unfinished?

Ooh. That could take a while. lol.

I'll do what I can though.

Any building or unit types in particular you saw that you would
    me to go through?

Edit: I've gone through the strat.txt too, and Makedonia has some
errors, etc. I'll get that up later.

There's nothing definite, but mostly ALL the new units like Carthaginians and Romans have completely unfinished descriptions. Diadochi and Greek descriptions are sort of place-holders too. It never came as a top priority thing for me, I rather preferred to just get stuff done.

Now I'm busy with RL and other projects. I haven't had any time to work on DTW for the past 6 months.

Hmm, I see. In that case, I'm gonna need someone to give ideas
for new unit descriptions, as I am not all that creative when it comes
    to writing. lol.

Anyway, I'll do what I can right now for the units and buildings, I'll put up
that strat.txt in a little bit.

Ideas, comments and concerns, as well as constructive criticism are welcome
    and appreciated, people!

Would be nice to see DTW polished a bit more. I did some work on the unit description (phalangists, in particular). Not sure it made to the game though. In the first instance, it is possible to get some decent concise descriptions of units using the text already introduced (except for some units). We could probably use descriptions from XGM. They are all right, I think. I personally for a concise to-the-point description: a short historical note on the unit followed by a hint or two on the unit's role on the battlefield.

Edit: @ Silver legionary. Btw, Notepad++ has an option to install an English dictionary as an add on. So, some basic text proofing can be done without need to import in word or any other text editor.

I used that feature of Notepad++ to my advantage in this case,
    it helped a lot.

Anyway, I think that new descriptions are in order for
quite a few units, but I wouldn't know what to do.

I'm much better with grammar and spelling, anyway.

    Notepad++ has a dictionary feature? Didn't know...must add it!

Good work Silver Legionary! Keep on, your aid is more than welcome!

It's just a spell checker, nothing like MSWord has. In fact, you'd be better off copying the whole file into Word most of the time.

Expand your borders, a mod based on XGM 5.

Fellow DTW players, if you have any ideas as to new unit/building
descriptions, fire away, as I have made little progress recently.
I have a summer job, and it has long hours.

To clarify how much time I have, I have the time to type the
text in/proof-read, but not to brainstorm new stuff. If anyone has
any suggestions, ideas, or even parts of a unit description they
would like to see, feel free to post what you want in this thread.

A good format to post in(if you have an idea for an entire entry,
or part of one) would be:

-Brief(3-4 sentences) overview of unit, it's type, and it's functions/strengths/weaknesses

    -1 line of space

    -Historical notes/sources/interesting facts

That's all I can think of at this point.

Hey everyone, I've made some progress, mainly with
the export_ancilliaries, going to work on the
    export_VnVs next.

Here's the (mostly) edited ancilliaries text file,
but it might still have a few errors here and there.
Said errors would mainly be with grammar,
if anything, as I'm better at spelling anyway.

Also, some of the ancilliaries are inaccurate about their
effects, like giving +2 to farming output, but the text
    says +3.

So, I'll post up an edited E.D.A., as well,
    if anyone wishes it.

Also, feel free to let me know where the errors are,
so I can correct them, and prevent future occurences.

That's great, thanks a lot for your help on this. I'll upload this to the repository.
