Default How to Increase City Population

I have always noticed that it is extremely hard to allow a city to get above about 28000 people. Is there a way I could edit farming harvest so that there is a higher level above farm+4? It would be great if I could create a special building built only in one city, like Rome, so that it could possibly have a population between 50000 and 100000?

    thanks,

The main thing that counter-acts population growth is squalor. The larger a population becomes, the higher squalor gets, and thusly curbs population growth. You cannot really remove squalor, but you can do some things to push population growth further.

One thing you can also do is edit RTW\Data\World\Maps\Base\Descr_Regions.txt and increase the base farming level for the region you want to grow. The last number in each region's entry is the number you want to change. Divide the number by two and that is the base growth percentage. A 5 or 6 is pretty average, giving a 2.5% - 3% base growth. Alexandria has probably the highest rate, of a 12, or 6% growth. Just be careful here, because it can give you really insane growth rates.

Grain resources also add population growth. Not for the territory that has the resource, but all those that trade with it. So every region next to one with Grain will grow. Again, be careful with this.

You can also create or simply use existing buildings that add a public health bonus (this adds to the growth rate), or population growth bonus. Look here for the specifics on using them.

I think population is capped at 48000, but regardless you could create another four farm levels at least, plus additional buildings that increase growth. There are many tutorials on this; the complete EDB guide is the best one to start with. SubRosa's suggestions also give you more growth without adding new buildings.

from what I was able to figure out and from what you told me, I was able to get the population to stay at a level about 48000, but the city generates TOO MUCH income. Is there some way I could add a building that makes the income for the city 0 denarii at all times. Because Rome didn't generate much income for the romans, I want it to be the same way in the game.

You could just add huge tax, trade, etc penalties to the government buildings.

I decided to make a placeholder character (a diplomat) that has no movement points and has a tax penalty of -100. It seems to work just fine.

Thanks for the help and +rep.
