    Default Features.

Features; If you prefer to be surprised, don't look.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    Scripted Historic battles.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The mod begins on the last day of the 'Battle of Thermopylae'. Leonidas and the last of the '300' face annihilation at the hands of the Persian hordes. There can be no escape.

After a brief period of consolidating your alliance you will be thrust into the cauldron of Plataea. Despite the large force of Spartans this is by no means a walk through the park, nor is it a battle for the weak-hearted. The Persians have more than enough in their ranks to give you a damn good thrashing.

After the Battle of Plataea, Xerxes forces sacked Athens. An orgy of devastation followed and this powerful ally was brought to its knees.

Winning at Plataea will give you a much easier path to liberating Athens. Losing is almost unthinkable...

    The Oracle (scripted missions).

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Spartans, as with all ancient Greeks, were a superstitious lot. While we could contend this seems at odds with most aspects of the highly pragmatic Spartan 'way of life', it should not be underestimated. So, we decided to include various scripted missions to keep you busy as you build an alliance powerful enough to take on the tide of Xerxes' empire.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
MISSION ONE: (actually probably 2nd to trigger) - Unite Southern Greece
Triggered by: 9 cities out of: Sparta Delphoi Opous Eretria Thebes Chalkis Argos Athens Epidaurus Ithome Korinth Olympia Patrai Tegea - being owned by greeks
    Time allowed: 3 years - 12 turns
    Reward: 20000 mnai
Win Conditions: capture the other 5 so you have all 14 above cities.

    MISSION TWO: Liberate Western Isles
Triggered by: owning Patrai and Olympia and having port in both cities.
    Time allowed: 2 years - 8 turns
Reward: 5000 mnai and Liberation Monuments (with law bonus) in the cities
Win Conditions: own Same, Leukas and Zakynthos

    MISSION THREE: Liberate Creta
Triggered by:triggered by either taking pherai when you own embesos or embesos when you own larissa or pherai
    Time allowed: 3 years - 12 turns
Reward: 10000 mnai and Liberation Monuments (with law bonus) in the cities
Win Conditions: take the three cities on crete

    MISSION FOUR: Liberate Ionian Isles
Triggered by: 3 out of Thebes, Athens, Chalkis & Eretria being large city and greek owned

Reward: 15000 mnai and Liberation Monuments (with law bonus) in the cities
Win Conditions: own Samos, Chios and Mytilene

    MISSION FIVE: Liberate Ionian Mainland
Triggered by:getting 5 points based on ownership of cities out of the following

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Liberation of Hellas.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Warlords of Sparta is a war of liberation rather than conquest. Restrictions of the engine tie our hands in many ways but luckily Mak has a knack of making things work. So rather than the usual 'Occupy, Enslave, Exterminate' options, you now have 'Liberate' and 'Disperse Liberated Population' when you capture a region from either the rebel Greek factions or the Persians. However this only applies in regions recognised as Greek. Once you venture into the barbarian north or Persian territories you can start exterminating again.

    Unique characters.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Cleombrotos: Faction leader and younger brother of the ill-fated Leonidas. As Spartan kings go Cleombrotos would not be considered a true warrior, though compared to most he could prove a 'Titan'. Vengeance for the death of his beloved brother stirs in his heart, whilst the future of all 'Hellas' lies in his hands.

Elpides: A much-travelled Spartan warrior, Elpides has seen the coast of many far-away lands, from the dark heart of the Africas to the lands where men paint their skin blue and fight naked. The knowledge Elpides has of battle and bravery in the face of overwhelming odds make him a formidable warlord.

Akadios: His father died alongside Leonidas as one of the brave '300'. As a boy Akadios was constantly hounded by rumours that his mother had been a celtic slave and as such he was not a true Spartan. While many joined in such jibes against the boy few would dare to mention them to the man. A skilled swordsman and master of battlefield tactics, Akadios will make a powerful general given the chance.

Melas: It takes all sorts to wage a war, even those considered reserved and gentle in nature. Melas has lived, unlike most Spartans, a life of art and philosophy. War was never thought to be in his blood, now with the hordes of Xerxes on the horizon even Melas has taken up his spear and shield ready to defend 'Hellas'.

Pausanias: The most accomplished of the Spartan warlords, 'Pausanias' has fought in many battles. During his early life he hired himself as a mercenary and military advisor to the barbaric tribes of the north. Hardship does not faze this fierce warrior one bit and he may well be your best bet to lead your forces on a long campaign.

    Buildings.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Spartan law was harsh and spreading this harsh regime would have caused much unrest, even among those you have liberated. So we have included two unique buildings to reflect the new wave of laws the Spartans would have insisted upon.

Krypteria: The Spartan secret police. Gives a law bonus in all regions captured by the Spartans.

House of Gerusia: The Spartan high council. Gives law bonus in regions where built by player.

    Antartes Hoplitai

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Antartes Hoplitai: An occupied land does not always equal a defeated people. As you progress, and the distance to your heartlands expands, getting good quality units to the front will become harder and more time consuming. In order to balance this we have included the 'Antartes Hoplitai', men who have hidden in the hills of Persian-held territory and are only to eager to take up arms and fight for a free Hellas. These men are scripted to join your cause as you liberate their regions. However, their numbers are heavily restricted and you will not be able to replenish these units via recruitment. So use them wisely.

    300 'Warlords edition'

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Warlords Edition is based on and influenced by the movie '300'. From this day it is up to you to guide the 'Warlords of Sparta', plot the defence of 'Hellas' and reap revenge for the death of your king.

    300 'Classic edition'

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I won't say 'historically accurate' as that's something far too contentious for me to spend time on. These units, while still bearing a little of my own interpretation, are far more in accordance with the period. Disclaimer: I had to make concessions with these units since they're based off the warlords 'DMB', this is to explain any weapon discrepancies. Please forward your any complaints to the 300WoS complaints dept..

    Classical Units.

When you install the mod you get the option to chose which version you play. You find out what the missions are by checking the traits of the Oracle, as explained above.

Maybe. I can't recall if I added that name or if it already existed in RTW. I vaguely remember looking up the family of Leonidas and finding different spellings. Though I don't recall why I stuck with that version.
