    Icon9 diplomacy failure

Hi I am bart new on the forums.
I joined the forums becouse I had a question and i couldnt find the answer on the forums
so i made my own topic

I am having problems with the diplomacy

I edited the descr.strat file like this at the bottom becouse i wanted that the factions
gaul germans britany and dacia where ally's through the whole game like the roman factions

but every time I play the game as gaul or any other faction of the 4 and I play about 5 to 20 round any other of the 3 betray me. I am getting sick of it...they are all 4 barbarian faction and I like them to fight together against rome.
But they dont only betray me but they also betray each other.
    so please help me

    I edited descr.strat like this:

    ; >>>> start of diplomacy section <<<<
    ;DS_ALLIED = 0
    ;DS_SUSPICIOUS = 100
    ;DS_NEUTRAL = 200
    ;DS_HOSTILE = 400
    ;DS_AT_WAR = 600

This is more of a modding question than technical help.

I'll move it to the modding forums. You may also want to have a search for 'forced diplomacy' as I think there are various mods out there that do that.

I found a mod that can make u force factions to accept the offer but that doesnt keep my allies from attacking each other :s

I am afraid that there is not much that you can do about it. RTW diplomacy does not work at all. Neighbours tend to attack each other and, all AI factions will attack the player's faction if they have the opportunity.

The only possible solution is, if you have a background script installed, to add a piece of code that will force them to declare peace at each turn end and start.

but the Romans never attack each other do they also have a script for themselves?
    maybe I can use that

The Romans are "hardcoded" (i.e. predetermined by the game) to keep at peace until one faction is strong enough to declare Civil War. As far as I know, no one has succeeded in replicating this.

According to TWC Wiki RTW: Alexander has a feature wich enables you to choose a faction never attack another faction. But I don't know how it works though.

    in descr_strat , it's something like this :

    ai_do_never_attack_faction . I'm not sure it"s this , but i think it's something like that

Yes, but this doesn't stop them attacking the player faction, and seems to be limited to only one faction.

I have a similar problem scritping the trojan war in Aristeia. I want the greeks to stay allied at least for 25 turns (but actively want that alliance to break down eventually).

My advice would be to check who is decalring war on who the most and add the above block in the descr_strat, also make sure that both the core and starting relationships between your allied factions are all -600. Other than that there is little you can do. If there is a settlement which is poorly defended or too close to another which my be contensious then move it further away or increase the garrison.

Be warned though that lasting peace is not possible unless you force diplomacy by script for every turn, and even then it doesn't work well. The diplomacy AI does not exist. Even after making a strong alliance and telling the AI to hate certain factions, giving them a victory condition (owned by enemy) one province away and preventing them from attacking the ally beside them they usually just move along to attack the next nearest ally rather than actually fight the enemy; it is laughably bad.

It can work for many factions, and it is effective until the faction has no other enemy and hence has no choice but to attack those listed in ai_do_never_attack_faction.

you mean I can only modify the alexander factions and not the normal rome total war factions?
but that are only like 5 factions or so

No, I mean this will only work with alexander and mods made specifically for alexander (i.e. alexander or any mod using the alex.exe), the RTW exe and BI exe do not support that line.

I came across this in trying a basic game in TE Gold with baktria-m/vh..by 14years(473 to 480),I always seem to have my ally,Seleucids backstabbing me and my campaign screwd, even though Parthia is weaker, and garrison size is no detterent!!! In Alex it seems better AI even without the no attack script thing. But in RTW.exe I was using, the crazy but best solution to this is to ahem..'move_character' console command..placing 'allied' stacks heading my way back near their own cities,to slow the AI boggyman down..^_* . It is cheating, but the game is not going by diplomacy and common sense so what the heck,it works.
