Default Instant Reinforcements! What the heck!?!

    Single player Hotseat, Gondor/Rohan, VH/VH.

The Black Gate had a small garrison, one or two units. I bring up my Gondorian force, with 2 balista units, and attack. Black Gate gets reinforcements, as expected. I use my balista to batter down the gate and rush in, destroying some of the garrison. I move the balista inside to batter down the second gate and rush in, destroying some of the garrison. Two units of Swan Knights pursue the routing garrison to the third gate. A full strength orc unit comes up behind the Swan Knights, wanting to get inside the third gate too. All the rest of my troops show up and there is general fighting around the third gate.

I carry the gate and rush to the center of the castle. "Our men have control of the city?" The counter is at 0:17 in red. I eliminate the last defender. My men are standing there doing nothing.

The counter resets to 1:14 in white. "Our men no longer control the city!"

There are no enemies anywhere. No red triangles on the mini-map. No Mordor reinforcements, nothing. No fighting going on anywhere.

I lose the battle and retreat. Checking Black Gate I find three full strength units defending it. Where did they come from? Next turn I attacked again and autoresolved to victory. Had they built more units during their turn I would have been very pi$$ed off, but they did not, so it was just the three defending.

I have no idea where the three units came from. There were no Mordor stacks anywhere nearby.

there are spawn-scripts in the map, so mordor gets free units (and also city scripts which makes unit spawn when they are sieged). thats where they came

also when you lose the battle, the prisoners you captured get released and come back to the enemy (and this is the most probable?)

Well, I don't know why you couldnt keep control of the city, but those units may have come from healing after the battle. I remember (this happened to me twice, and why i turned off timed battles) when i was sieging a city I would just let my ballistas take out the majority of enemies within the walls, then rush in and take the city. Twice the battle timer went out when I had less than a minute left on the control of the city timer, and there were LITERALLY less than 5 orcs left in the city square. But since those counted as losses, when I looked at the city on the campaign map, those 5 orcs had multiplied into several full units. Very frustrating

The auto-script nailed me yesterday when I attacked Mordor. Their captain had 5 rings of power. All the same ring. He also had two specific power rings, but I forget what they are right now. Anyway, when attacking a settlement, just know that you are about to get rape raPE RAPED!

P.s. I still beat him with a half stack of beat up Silvans

Sorry for the double post. I tried to edit the first one, and proved I'm dumb by making a second one.

    Maybe it was Sauron himself.

It was a full star general for the OOTMM, so not Sauron. I look at his anicillarys ,see all those rings, and think WTF!? Same ring, same stat. I have to go check to see if I looted them after taking him down to Chinatown.

    EDIT:
Okay, I checked to see who I battled. It was High Chieftain Uglag age 61. He's the faction leader. He has 10 Command, 3 Fear, 10 Authority, and 10 Obedience. He had the Ancillary Guardian of Moria, Warlord of the Misty Mountains, The Witch-Kings Ring, and 5 Rings of Power. His full stack spawned when I attacked Moria with a rag-tag half stack of Sylvian Elves. He got stomped, I got Moria. I didn't have a general with me, so none of those beautiful ancillaries are mine. Oh well, the power would've been too great for my elves to resist anyway.
