why is hungary a supreme world power in almost every game?
i dont know but it happens in my games to
I think the central position they hold is pretty important. Some good early rebel settlements to pick up, usually at the pointy end of any crusading action, and handily placed to pick up on rebelling german, polish, roman, etc territories. Nothing so great about their roster or anything else, I think it's just their central position.
I find that Hungary becomes quite powerful early on in the campaign but later on, they start taking a beating from Byzantium, Venice, the HRE and sometimes Poland.
Its because they are hungry for power

Hungary borders so many easy rebels. For human Hungary, it's easy to make largest faction in game early on. One problem is that AI for all factions are very slow to take rebels. (H/H difficulty)

The AI is like a retarded overwieght child. He realy want all those fries, he just does not know how to get them. http://img1.coolspacetricks.com/imag...unny/81776.gif
In my book, this joke calls for an immediate lifetime ban!!!!!
Arrest this man, he has Bob Monkhouse's joke book( for all non-UK residents, this man told very bad jokes, bless him)

I'm shocked that nobody brought this reason up:

Hungary has the " undisputed Bamf-in-Chief of the early campaign, the Hungarian Lord of Satu Mare - Istvaaaaaaaaan"!
That dude is awesome enough to generate 147 posts of appreciation...now that's almost at the Chuck Norris level of awesomeness. With a general like him, you can bet Hungary will be whopping ass.
PS: I've played only up to SS5, so I don't know if Istvan is still there in SS6.
It's for this reason that I think Serbia or Bulgaria could be added, as not only would these places be fun to play but would help keep Hungary in check.
The main reason (in my opinion) is that the AI has recruitment bonuses, the Magyars have a centralized recruiting station for cavalry in their capitol, and lots of great cheap balkan mercenaries to put into play. Balkan units are very cheap, Hungary has a ton of resources and good farming, and of course a strategic position. That and their cavalry is $&#*ing godlike.
I have noticed that Hungary is very powerful and grows very large in almost every campaign I have been playing. Mostly they beat Byzantines, Polish and sometimes HRE.
Adding a new faction between Hungary and the Byzantine Empire, would make Hungary less powerful. Although this would require removing one of the existing factions...
HRE is the power house in my venice vh/vh, almost impossible to beat them when no one will go to war with them.
In RR Cumans are place in south of hungary in Valachia. Thats good but Bucharest is inexistant in 1080. Is founded more late. Was there 2 big castles, Targoviste and Curtea de Arges, with big conection to cumans. Same about Iasi. Better is to place there a genovese colony, a good city. Will act like a buffer and is historical right. Plus was a factor who make hungarians to not be a super power, the mongolian invasion in 1200. That weaken them very much.
I think the ideal would be a Bulgarian khanate, as represented by the bulgarian rebellion in btr and rr/rc, maybe as an emergent like the Teutonic order in a later version, and a full faction for late era. However, I really think Georgia deserves it's spot in the upcoming release as well. In the early campaign the Pechenegs controlled much of the lower danube and were a major threat until Alexius Comnenus smashed them in the 1090's. I think this is well represented by having a cuman presence in bucharest.
Hungary was a superpower until 1200 in Europe and it had more population than England.
What stopped them in 1200 it was the cuman devastation (who where fleeing from the mongols through hungarian territory- and Hungary didn't succed to make an alliance with them) and the mogol invasion in the same time.
If you want to handle this issue with historical reality, script that the mongols send some stacks around 1200 and the fleeing cumans attack in the same time as the mongols.
