I have lag alot. I got a somewhat good graphics card. I got gamebooster, smart defrag, advanced system care, CCleaner, and Gamebooster.

It still lags, just lagging every 30 seconds for about several minutes, then fine for 30 seconds. Seems to be a pattern. I can't play battles, too frustrating and not even enjoyable anymore.

It's on even the mini campaigns(Americas etc.)

Help much appreciated.

Can you post your DxDiag report for us. That would help us out a lot. Thanks!

Also, is this a new problem or has it been persistent from the beginning?

Lastly, have you tried lowering all of your graphics settings to minimum as well as lowering unit sizes to the lowest possible setting? These steps might help....

RTW never happened. Happened in both M2TW Golds that I bought. After a while, I got tired of the lag and went back to RTW, and the lag followed me. Now it's in both. The mouse shows up in RTW, but not in M2TW, I have to guesstimate where it is. Everything else shows up.

Yes, all graphics on lowest.

Well Vista's a huge memory hog but this may not be the problem. At 2 GB memory you should be fine enough to play battles first-hand in M2. Your virtual memory seems fine as well as your drivers.

One question: Looking at Dells tech specs for the Inspirion 531 series it lists the Integrated NVIDIA® GeForce® 6150 LE graphic GPU as its retail standard (or various ATI cards). Did you install your own card by chance?

Also Dell lists a pitiful 250W power supply for that model. Please tell me you're running something stronger than that....

Again I'll have to defer to Irishron on some of this but here's the main point. Weak power supplies have to work harder to provide power to that very nice video card you have. This creates more heat in the box. Excessive heat degrades the CPU's ability to function.

Does your box seem warm or even hot to the touch? Heat could play a big role in your situation because with your relatively bare-bones system I doubt that it has a robust cooling system.

The only way to get more wattage on a power supply is to replace it with something heftier. If you have any knowledge of computers or electronics it's a relatively easy process - just swap the old with the new and make sure all the power cables go to the same places they did before. But if you're not sure then don't screw with it. You'll do more damage then good in that case.

From what I see it can play small battles.

From my experiencewith Vista, 2gigs of ram isn't much when Vista uses 1500+megs for itself. That leaves very little for many applications including games. I have 3 gigs for that reason. Your graphics card will do the job but it's the low end of the 9000 series. It won't do what a 9800 will do but it will play the game. Your biggest bottleneck is your 2 gig cpu. This game will beat it to death. In fact, if you don't have good ventilation in your case, this game will overheat both the cpu and the video card.

You amy get by medium settings at the start of a campaign, but you performance will go downhill the deeper you get into one.
Battles, you may have to settle for minimum settings because of the cpu.

Yea, it plays it, doesn't crash or anything, just horrible lag.

How do I get an extra gig?

No, for some reason it doesn't. Even on the main menu it lags. Usually it won't until I move my "mouse" that I can't see. Like, it's fine, but once I move the mouse the lag kicks in.

You can buy extra memory from many stores or online - I use Newegg.com here in the states.

Just buy a stick of 1 or 2 GB memory and add it to your motherboard. If you don't know how well it is rather easy but better ask for help instead of breaking something. Now you'll need to match whatever you already have - if you have two 1 GB sticks then buy a third but if you have one 2 GB stick then you'll need to get another 2 GB to match.

If you have Best Buy close, you can probably walk in and buy what you want. Take your manual that came with your computer with you so you get the right one.
