sorry my english is not as good.

But idk they seem pretty invincible to me especially the iron guard and the dragon slayers. I try to flank them with cavalry but it usually fails. I thought a more experienced combatant may know?

    thank you

Keep you distance, their infantry have more armor than you, no matter what faction. Use flaming arrows (as those tend to ignite armor) or regular arrows on lesser Dwarves and KEEP YOUR DISTANCE. Horses are the Dwarves's bane, impossible for them to catch. Use horse archers if you have them along with artillery and charging cavalry. Don't expect your infantry to win outright, but only to keep them occupied while archers, horse archers, javelins, and artillery keep firing and your heavy cavalry keep charging

Yeah I find dwarves to be one of if not the hardest things to kill in game

best counter is to use SPREAD OUT!! like mad and diminish them by way of attrition get you archers in good firing angles and have some diversionary forces keep the bulk of their force busy and horse archers of course

Crossbows, Javelins, Cavalry, flaming arrows, Pike and melee combo (armor piercing melee if you can), siege engines.

They do very well in defensive fortifications, as it elimnates one of the players main advantages: manueverability. So be sure to save some arrows towards the end of an assault, as the dwarves like to mass up in the square towards the end of a siege battle.

I've played against the Dwarves with both Rhun and the OotMM. The best tactic I have found with these two factions is to mass javeline men. I usually have one or more armies of cannonfodder soldiers (many of them javeline throwers) followed by one or more armies of more elite troops.

Massing javeline cannon fodder troops not only helps on the field, but it's good for backing up your main army in sieges using sheer numbers (and it's dirt cheap! ).

Like the others suggested also, using ignited arrows is also good. I'd throw a few archers in with those javeline throwers for good measure.

    P.S.
I thought this was implied, but I figured I should mention it anyways: hit and run is still the key!

I just generally prefer javelines to archers against dwarves, because they do more damage and are usually more easily available... archers are still good to route them with, though.

Lots of flanking hit and run with cavalry. Their weakness is speed and maneuver so a lot of in and out and isolation works for me. Your infantry are as fast or faster so you can also run them for a bit to extend the Dwarven line out and give more time to weaken. Just be patient and your speed advantage will always give you the opportunity to take the initiative.

Swarm with the cavalry and hit individual units with multiple cav units from multiple angles. Pull out immediately. Do all damage with the charge and don't melee exchange unless they are severely weakened or another unit is charging in from another angle.

Armour piercing weapons, infantry with good defense and cavalry with strong charge are your best bet.

As the others have said you just gotta beat them down with range. They are tough but not impossible. Trying pushing them into ponds, that works on the best of them.

quick question... I'm not an expert of lore whatsoever, so hence my interest.

The dwarves are smaller than humans, and with the greatest of respect to Gimli, little fat things at that. So how come they are stronger than humans?

    Thanks

An adult chimpanzee is smaller than a man...... but it is twice as strong. Has to do with different muscle structure length and a gene humans no longer have.
    ------------------
    As to fat:
Think of Dwarves as miniature Samoans, what you think is fat covers about eight layers of muscle.

In actuality though; Gimli was very broad and with the reduced height you could have seen him as fat in the film. The truth is most mountain Dwarves were very fit; having to constantly climb, mine, forge, fight, etc.

Nothing. Just accept defeat before the Dwarven power. No, j/k. All suggestions above are good.

    * shooting
turn off "fire at will" and target units without shields (e.g. miners)
i play dwarfs and build only units with shields. mostly dwarfen warriors

    * spread out
make the dwarfs spread out. as a dwarf player i never spread out. i wait with my shieldbearing dwarfs till the enemy is out of ammunition (AI should counter this with catapults). if AI spreads out a rear charging cavalry would be suitable

    * dont build high armor units
almost all dwarf units are armor piercing. building high armor units is a waste of money.

Hmm? Sometimes your armie might be attacked by dale or some other faction- The lack of armor would hurt. Besides, as AP halves the effective armor of an unti high armor units will still be better protected.

I don`t say that high armor units are better than skirmisher or riders against dwarfes, though.

    true.

    my opionion is just:
armor is included in buy/upkeep money. as misty mountain faction i'd rather not pay for something i get half of bonus.

in battles i usually have mostly "dwarven warriors".

snagas are very annoying. i turn to face them so i get my shield bonus. then i have to waaaaaaaaaaaaaaait with fast forward.
im really VERY happy with enemy heavy infantry. sometimes my unit card blinks red. and the enemy number goes very fast down.

    ---

my tip ist just dont try to beat a faction in what it is best at. mongol fighting style is good against dwarves.

Edit: Carp, don't forget carp, them carp will rip even a champion axedwarf to shreds.

Well, if the movie Willow taught us anything: Death dogs and people that are taller than them. Seriously though, Willow didn't have dwarves per se I just had to kid around. I've always found that the best way to find out a factions weakness is to play them for a bit. The weakness becomes evident quickly.

as always, a good counter is a balanced army.

first, you have bow advantage (i assume youre not countering dwarves with dwarves), superior range, though less killing power. target his units and preference over the ones without shields.

your infantry is more mobile than theirs, and probably more numerous. attack them from the flanks and rear if possible.

cavalry should stay away from halberdier units and should hit and run the enemy's rear.

if artillery is available target the expensive, more-than-1-hp units like generals dragonslayers and the like.

so, in conclusion, maneuverability and archery are the best counters for dwarves
