1220 Campaign (Crusades)

This thread is for discussion and feedback for the 1220 campaign (formerly the 1230 campaign).



Though the first Crusade brought great success for the Crusaders, the next four crusades achieved little. When Constantinople was sacked during the fourth Crusade the Eastern Roman Empire split into 4 four parts: the Latin Empire, the Depotate of Epirus, the Empire of Nicaea, and the Empire of Trebizond. The Depotate of Epirus and the Empire of Nicaea are now battling the Latin Empire (which now only controls Constantinople) and each other to restore the Eastern Roman Empire.

Recently a new power has emerged from the east, the Mongolian Empire. After their envoy was attacked by the Khwarezm-Shah dynasty their leader Genghis Khan and his army have come for revenge.

Technology

At the start of this mod Light Mail or Lamellar are the strongest armour available to the player and most of the infantry available wield spears. Cannons will become available later on.

• Every Faction Lead has a unique battle model
• Faction Leader's authority affects every settlement you control (low authority = more disorder and less money).
• The new Faction Leader must be crowned in the original capital or they'll suffer penalties
• Royal buildings allow you to recruit castle units in cities.
• Arqubusters and Musketeers available from their own building, rather than a Royal Barracks.

Why those two? Norway and Wales are vital to Scandinavia and the British Isles respectively more so than a few succesor stated of the Byzatine Empire. Wales caused problem for England and Norway is just awesome. Why don't you create a mini-mod for this putting your idea into action?

Update: I'm planning to replace the Latin Empire with the Principality of Epirus because in 1230 the Latin Empire only controlled Constantinople, while the Empire of Nicaea and Principality of Epirus battled each other to recreate the Byzantine Empire.

Banate of Bosnia should be definitely in, but with the capital of Vrhbosna. Because Vrhbosna was the capital in the the 13. century. Vrh Bosna means "the top of Bosnia".

Unfortunately I don't have any spare factions so I can't add Bosnia, though I can add it as a rebel province rather than part of another faction.

I'm planning to modify this campaign in the next version. The new campaign will be set in 1220 so that the Khwarezmid Empire will be playable (Mali will be removed). Also the Latin Empire will be replaced with the Despotate of Epirus,which will control the Balkan part of the Eastern Roman Empire, while the Empire of Nicaea will control the Anatolian areas.



Does anyone have any comments regarding this?

Yea~ I agree hands down.
Ireland by the start of the mod(1220) was very fractious without any political will and the tenacity to wage counter-offensives against the Anglo-Normans(the Plantagenets) historically-speaking. Ruaidrí Ua Conchobair, the last High-King of Ireland was ousted in 1186 and died in 1198(22 yrs bef mod starts). With his death, Gaelic-Ireland returned to a state of civil war, with petty kingdoms again vying for supremacy in the post-High King era.
Meanwhile, Wales is prospering under the rule of the Principality of Wales, launching successful raids into Anglo-Norman-controlled Wales even expanding her realm to encompass almost half of Wales. Wales should be in this mod.

The slot vacated by the Irish could be given to the Teutonic Order, who were to play an important role on the World historical stage in the decades to come. Alternatively, Bosnia could be in this mod.

I am not racist or biased. I just hope that all the factions present in this era (1220), deserve their place due to the downside of having only 30 factions in-game at any point of time.

With Great Kulin Ban (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ban_Kulin) and with the arrival of Great Ban Ninoslav (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matej_Ninoslav), Bosnia struggled against Hungarian Kingdom and Byzantine Empire and succeeded to establish control of most of Bosnia. Also, Kulin and Ninoslav were the only two Great Bans, rest were just Bans till the period of Ban Tvrtko (1353-1391) when Bosnia became a kingdom.

I've created a poll in the Eras Total Conquest Sub-forum to get more feedback on whether to replace Ireland with Bosnia. If there's support for this idea I'll replace Ireland with Bosnia.

I don't understand why Georgia is not in. In this time period the Kingdom of Georgia reached their peak under Queen Tamar and George IV, controlling most of the Caucasus and some surrounding areas. In my opinion they are more important than Wales, Ireland or Serbia.
